A/N: Just a little timestamp to Wingman.
It was dark when Steve woke up. That wasn't right. His body clock told him it was well past sunrise, well past the time he usually woke up. Then, he realized there was something covering him, but it didn't feel like the sheet. Whatever it was cocooned him completely, soft and warm and comforting. It made him feel safe, like he was being held by his mother—or a lover.
That's when Steve realized what the cocoon was-Danny's wings. They'd fallen asleep together, and Danny's wings must have wrapped around Steve during the night. Sure enough, there was a shifting behind him, a body pressing close against his back, and the wings wrapped him tighter. Steve snuggled back into Danny, enjoying the warm embrace. The lure to touch was too much, though, and Steve raised a hand to stroke the wings.
They felt entirely different on this side. In addition to the feathers, Steve could feel the bones. It was a strange feeling, and Steve much preferred the feathery side.
"You're stroking the wrong side," Danny mumbled behind him, as if sensing Steve's thoughts.
Steve poked the wing covering him. "Then turn over. I can't reach."
Danny grumbled but obligingly unfurled his wings from around Steve and rolled over. Steve felt a cold that was more than physical at their absence, but it was lessened when one of Danny's wings draped over his side. It fluttered impatiently. "Pet me," Danny ordered.
"Demanding, aren't you?" Steve said, but his voice was fond. In response, Danny's wing fluttered again. Steve obediently stroked it, reveling in the various textures from the soft down feathers at the base through the almost sharp primaries at the top. Danny hummed happily. "Do you like that?"
"Mmm-hmm." Danny was practically boneless, completely relaxed as Steve kept up his stroking. Danny's eyes closed as he slipped into a pleasant doze.
Steve continued stroking as Danny drifted, marveling that this man was now his, that he would hopefully wake up to this for many days to come. He could get used to this.
