Author's note: I was bored and decided to write a piece in which I examine
Mulder and Scully's characters somewhere set between the fifth and sixth
season, where they have come to a new point in their relationship.
Ch.1
She sat quietly reflecting on the recent events that had unfolded. Her gaze was fixed on an open case file before her, yet her vision was unconcentrated and blurred by her distant thoughts. She allowed her fingers of her right hand to dance over the edge of the desk, making a muted clicking sound as her nails beat against the wood.
Fox Mulder walked in through the door. He looked tired, a man beaten down by his work, but who pushed himself beyond his own limits. His dark hair was mussed, and dark, heavy bags draped from beneath his reddened eyes. She made no effort to lift her gaze to his, or even acknowledge his entrance.
He walked slowly over to his desk which his partner behind, and picked up the case file and skimmed his eyes over it then tossed it back onto his desk and sighed deeply. Scully looked up at her partner thoughtfully, still tapping her fingers. His eyes burned into hers, there revealing boredness, disinterest, and the soul of a worn out man in need of a vacation.
" Any suspects?" he asked less-than-amused.
"Nope." She returned her gaze back to the file, the tapping growing louder.
"So, what exactly are we investigating, same me the trouble of reading that." He pointed down at the file unenthusiastically.
Scully flashed him a look of warning. " A woman's body was recovered from a lake, evidence of rape, and another woman missing they believe to be abducted by the same person or persons."
Mulder glanced at her, too lazy to ask for more, yet signaling to her to go on.
She sighed, " Melissa Ricknar, the murder victim, a 23 year old veterinarian's assistant, was last seen at a night club called 'The bubble room'. She was blonde, blue eyes, and described as a very attractive, caring person. Lisa Malone, blonde, blue eyed, 24 year old was last seen at the bubble room as well." She breathed deeply.
"How do we fit into this?" He asked as he watched her fingers tap his desk rhythmically.
"Well, apparently, both women belonged to a Wicca cult, and both women were with a separate group of friends at the club on the different nights, and early on in the evening had experienced 'stomach pain and dizzy spells'."
"Mmhmm." He sat on the corner of his desk and tapped his pen in sync with her nails.
"No witnesses?"
"Nope. They vanished into thin air."
They both sat, their eyes unfocused into space, both lost amongst their own thoughts, uninterested in their newest assignment.
"We leave tomorrow." She added as she blinked and leaned back in the chair, stretching her back.
Mulder yawned and scratched his side. The two made eye contact and relayed their restlessness to one another. Their moods, sultry and tired.
