Not Really Worth A Shot

Maybe she should've been paying attention to Arthur, but it isn't her fault that her attention is elsewhere.

It's Cobb's.

Ever since she shared that forced dream with him about Mal, she just can't seem to let him out of her sight. Or out of mind.

It kinda sucks, but she's dealing with it, and after a while it's not so bad, she supposes.

But she can't seem to listen to Arthur and worry about Cobb at the same time, it just won't work, and her heads starting to hurt from the overload.

They watched him walk by a few minutes ago, and although he'd already left, she was still looking that way.

And she just can't get his face out of her mind. She can't get him out of her mind. She wonders what'll happen to him. What will he actually get out of this mission? Will he make it to his kids, his sanity intact? Will he confront Mal and finally let her go? Will they actually succeed, in general, with the Inception?

Her eyes begin to burn from not blinking.

Arthur is still talking to her and she still has no idea what he's saying. She sees the projections all around them staring at them. She vaguely hears herself ask why they're looking at them, but her mind immediately turns back to Cobb, and the last time she dealt with projections.

Arms grabbing her. Dom reaching for her. A lone figure in black walking through the crowd towards her. Dom yelling for her. The glint of a sword. The blinding pain that lasted for a second. Waking up. Echoes of the pain and Dom's voice screaming her name.

She snaps out of it again. She really should pay attention to Arthur. She blinks and refocuses her eyes. Then she turns towards him, a question ready on her lips.

But it's stolen from her when Arthur leans in and kisses her.

What the-? Her eyes widen. What is he doing? She pulls away, shock engraved on her face. "Why—why did you do that?"

Arthur didn't answer at first. He stared at her face for a while, an intense look upon his features. She takes these extra seconds to think over what happened. Why did he kiss her? He's never shown any kind of intentions toward her before this…she's never shown any intentions for him before this. She's been so wrapped up in Cobb that she hasn't paid much attention (romantically, at least, her mind supplies) to the rest of the team.

So why kiss her?

Thinking about Cobb makes her traitor eyes glance back in the other direction once again, and she quickly drags them back to the man in front of her.

He seems to have made his mind up about something, and he smiles lightly at her.

"It was worth a shot."

Small thing, wanted to make something that ruined the 'sacred peck scene' *rolls eyes* Anyway, I've at least added a new addition to the D/A anti-A/A collection, so all in all, it's a win-win situation if I submit this xD Hope you guys enjoy this little ficlet :)
