"I look at you and know everything will be fine. You are the angel that has made my life perfect." Sara said as she smiled at the tiny bundle in her arms. She was the most gorgeous thing Sara had every seen. "You're my fairytale ending."
"Shall I tell you about your daddy?" Sara asked her daughter and she held her close.
"He was my best friend, and the best person I knew. He loved to flirt with me, even if it wasn't the most appropriate time to do so. He could make me laugh so hard that I cried. He make me want to live again, he made me find the fun in life. Something I'd lost when I was very young." Sara forced her memories from surfacing, focusing on happier memories.
"On our first date he took me for a picnic in the dark, far away from the city lights so I could see the stars." Images of that night filled her mind causing her eyes to flood with tears. It had been the most perfect night.
"We only dated for a few months before I moved in with him," Sara laughed as another set of memories filtered though her mind.
"The look on Uncle Warrick's face when I told him what I was doing. He wasn't too impressed with losing that bet. Anyway, your Dad and I got married only six months after that. I had your Uncle Grissom give me away and Auntie Cath and Lindsey were my bridesmaids and your Dad looked amazing." Sara said with a giggle, that day had been the third best of her life.
"Only a few weeks later I found out about you," Sara said as she kissed her daughter's soft skin. "God your Dad was so excited, a big kid, when he found out about you." Sara's voice cracked as she spoke and she had to take several steadying breaths before her voice was calm enough to let her continue.
"He was trying to protect us. A very bad person tried to hurt us and he stopped them, but he got hurt instead." Sara couldn't hold back the tears so she let them fall, knowing sometimes it was better to talk though the tears. "He didn't want to leave us, he told us how much he loved us and how he would be with us both forever, even if we couldn't see him. But he couldn't stay with us. I know he was here today though because he wouldn't have missed you for the world." Sara glanced up as she heard a gentle knock on the hospital door. Catherine smiled sadly as she saw the tear tracks on Sara's cheeks.
"Are you okay honey?" She asked concern clear in her voice as she walked towards the bed.
"Yeah, I was just telling her about her Daddy." Sara gave a genuine smile back that reassured Catherine that the younger woman really was okay.
"Everyone's dying to know…have you thought of a name yet?" Catherine said practically jumping to know.
Sara smiled down at her daughter.
"Yes. Her name is Cassandra Elizabeth Sanders."
