Liking Lily Evans was not the problem it was getting her to give him the time of day.

James had first met Lily six years ago when they both started Hogwarts. He thought he had been a perfect gentleman but he had since learned that letting a girl fall out of your boat as you were half way across a lake was not gentlemanly behaviour. Whenever Lily brought this up, James maintained that it had been in fact a violent shove the boat had received from the giant squid which caused her to fall and that he had only been trying to help her. Although, he secretly thought that Sirius had rocked the boat on purpose. Lily said she accepted that her fall was not James fault but always seemed to bring it up during arguments. Generally the pair were on friendly terms, friendly meaning that they would acknowledge each other in the corridor but not go out of their way to spend time with each other. However on the occasion that they disagreed on a certain topic then the whole of Gryfinndor house would head for their dorm rooms. They were both extremely…opinionated individuals and neither of them liked to hear they were wrong. Although Lily seemed to hate these arguments, James on the other hand enjoyed them intensely. When Lily was annoyed she scrunched up her nose, shook her head and waved her balled fists about an awful lot. He loved it when she did that as her scrunched up nose looked rather cute. Also, James found it refreshing that not every girl in Hogwarts was just concerned only with her hair, make-up, celebrities and boy chasing. Lily was passionate about a million different, social, political and popular issues and was not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. That was one of the things he loved most about her, it put her a step above all of the airheads who threw themselves at him everyday. He also loved her smile, her hair, her laugh, the way she almost fell asleep during History of Magic…

Lily had got to the point where she couldn't retain any of the information she was reading from her Ancient Runes textbook, she had to stop. Looking around her she saw the librarian whispering menacingly at a frightened looking first year who was evidently handing in an overdue book, she laughed remembering all the times Potter had begged her to hand in an overdue library book for him. The boy was terrified of Madam Kirkes and had to be forced to go into the library. It was just as well because he hardly ever studied, that was one of the many things that annoyed Lily about James. He had a sincere lack of commitment to anything other Quidditch yet he was definitely intelligent. He was almost as arrogant as Sirius and had a God complex. She was also sure he would be lost without the band of groupies who followed him around. She had no clue what those girls saw in Potter, they worshipped the ground he walked on, giggled whenever he passed them in the corridors and filled the Quidditch stands to bursting point whenever Gryfinndor were playing. Lily was sure she was one of the only girls in the school who didn't have an infatuation with him. She wouldn't be surprised if some of the younger female members of staff also harboured secret crushes on him also judging be the way they acted around him! It annoyed Lily that she let Potter get to her this much. Sometimes she felt like she thought more about him than Adrian! Definitely not a good thing, they had been dating for months now but still Potter's face managed to invade her thoughts. Curse his stupid but annoyingly cute messy hair!!

"I did not just think that!" she said to herself.
