Welcome, Heroes, to the newest project that I am tackling: Domestic Heroes, Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride! This story here, which is set during chapter 28 of the original Domestic Heroes, has been in the backburner for a good while now and it's high time I brought it out. It took me quite a while to figure out how to start it up, but I think I got something here that might just work. It won't be as long as its predecessor, though. If things go as planned, this story might be around 9 or 10 chapters depending on how the writing goes. Got a special thanks to a friend of mine as well for allowing me to use her characters in this story, so Mika, if you're reading this, thanks so much for allowing me to use them! With that said, enjoy the story, and I will se you at the end!
Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction in dedication to a much grander work. As such, the author does not own the rights to any characters within this story, and any correlation between any original characters that may appear and people in the real world are merely coincidental.
Domestic Heroes: Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride
Prologue: A Story on the Sands and a Rush to the Skies
"Wow… So many people… And hardly any of them are locals. Looks like we're not the only ones on vacation."
"No kidding. Quite a number of them are also Pro Heroes, too. I think I recognize a few of them from the national conference a few months back, and a bunch more from my hero collection. Looks like this place is as popular as ever"
"Ooh. I hope that everyone's coordinated their schedules to accommodate this, Dad. It'll be dangerous if so many of us are away for a long period of time."
"We have contingencies for situations like this, sweetie. Japan included. No need to worry. We're also having an influx of foreign heroes coming in as well to help balance everything out and to promote international relations and unions. So long as nothing like the botch robbery happens again, things should go smooth sailing."
"…Dad, it's been years since that incident. Are you ever gonna let that go?"
"I have. Your mother? Not so much. You know full well how she can be when she's angry. You remember how she was towards Kacchan and Mikan after they trashed our old apartment a couple days after your birthday?"
"Oh, I remember that. Aunt Camie and I thought it was funny, even though we got in trouble by you because we let them fight."
"Yup. And don't get me started on the incidents that we had involving Toga… I swear the things she's done to rile her up."
"Ugh, don't remind me of that crazy lady, Dad! I'm still trying to forget about the last time I saw her! She's so creepy!"
Izuku "Deku" Midoriya, the Number One Hero and Japan's New Symbol of Peace, couldn't help the laugh that escaped his lips as he gently stroked his foster daughter's head. It had been around sixteen years since he had accepted the honor of possessing One-For-All from his hero All Might; the Quirk that allowed him the strength to achieve his dream of being the greatest hero ever, and while it took some time to finally reach his goal, the journey to it was one that he never wanted to forget. He had made many memories during his life both in and after attending his dream school of UA, both good and bad, and every experience he had made him into the hero he was now. He had met so many people that he'd come to cherish, so many that he came to respect and honor, and he knew for a fact that without them, he would not even be half the person he currently was. One in particular was essentially one of the main catalysts outside of his mentor for everything good that was in his life. The one that stood beside him through many of their shared challenges. The one who changed his old, horrid childhood nickname into his current, hope filled hero name. The one that he decided to spend the rest of his life with. The one who's simple touch made him so filled with bliss that he felt like he was floating, both figuratively and literally…
…Although it might be literally at the moment since he was now hovering about a meter in the air now.
"Gyah! Ochako, again?! That's twice now that you've done this!" Izuku exclaimed as soon as he realized he was floating. Hearing the bell-like sounds of his love's laughter, he craned his head to see his wife of roughly eight years grinning up at him with the white haired form of their foster daughter standing beside her with an amused expression.
"It wasn't me this time, Izuku. It's your fault for ignoring your son calling out to you. He just does what I do to get your attention. Which is very effective, I might add," Ochako Midoriya, also known as the Pro Hero Uravity, chirped with a grin as she crossed her arms, with Eri Midoriya nodding along in agreement.
Izuku blinked a couple times, processing the words of his partner, before another set of laughter was heard right below him, this one sounding much more childish. A sheepish grin growing, he adjusted his body to the point where he was upside down and let off a strained laugh when he saw two of the most precious people in his life look up at him cheerfully: His brunette and freckled face son Akihiro Toshinori 'Toshi' Midoriya and his emerald haired and equally freckled daughter Reiko Midoriya.
"Sorry, Dad. You looked like you were spacing out with Sis again and I wanted to snap you out of it. If it helps, it was Rei's idea to do this," Toshi apologized while waving his finger-padded hand at his father.
"Yup yup! I told big brother to make you float so that you can pay attention and play with us! We're at a beach, daddy so we have to have a lot of fun!" Reiko exclaimed, looking so excited that a few embers ended up escaping her lips, causing a sweatdrop to form on the father's head.
"Right… Sorry about that, kids. I'm fine now. Toshi, would you mind letting me down before your sister gets impatient and sets something on fire again? With all the palm trees here, I don't want a repeat of what happened at Christmas with Grandma Inko last year." Izuku requested, chuckling at the indignant squawking of his youngest child as his only son let go of his hold on him, allowing him to easily land feet first on the sand and right in front of his wife and eldest daughter, who were clapping at his 'acrobatic feat' with teasing grins.
The heroic family of five were currently having fun on vacation at a beach, enjoying themselves to the fullest. It was a tradition for them to have at least one trip at the beginning of the year to visit Ochako's parents in Hawaii and spend a week in the islands to unwind from the stresses of hero work, and it was a tradition that has, thankfully, always been kept. Even with the two adults being constantly busy, Izuku especially thanks to him recently gaining the title of Number One Hero, they had always managed to make time to spend with their family and be a part of their lives, and this vacation was the biggest proof of it. And now, with massive smiles and clad in their swimsuits: Izuku and Toshi in their trunks, Ochako and Eri in bikinis, and Rei in a one piece, the family were ready to go out and have a fun time at the beach.
"Alright everyone, let's head over to our spot. Hopefully it's still as secluded as last year," Izuku ordered with a clap, grinning when he saw the excited look on his youngest and middle children's faces before reaching behind him and pulled out a large ice chest.
"I think it should, Dad. Ms. Lilo makes sure that our spot stays relatively empty whenever we're here, so I'm sure there's not many people around," Eri assured while grabbing a large beach umbrella.
"She did. I called ahead. Our special spot is safe and free of any tourists and paparazzi. We're all good," Ochako assured with a thumbs up and a picnic basket hanging on her arm.
"Oh, that's good. I really didn't want a repeat of the first time that we had our vacation here…" Izuku admitted while letting off a sigh of relief before walking ahead to their spot, the others following close by. Ochako and Eri had empathetic expressions on their faces as they stood beside him, knowing exactly what he was talking about, but Reiko and Toshi were looking up at their parents and adopted older sister in confusion.
"What do you mean, Dad? What happened the first time you, Mom and Sis visited here?" Toshi questioned.
"Lots of things, champ. Lots of things. It was still fun and helping your grandparents move in to their house was rewarding, but the things that happened during our first trip here was…ridiculous to say the least," Izuku explained with a wry smile, his words causing a spark of excitement to show in his youngest's eyes.
"Ooh! I remember Big Sis talking about this! You had villains from home stow away here and had to fight those weird monsters that Dad's nemesis makes and got saved by that weird guy with the funny moustache and rescued those weird animals with powers like Mikan and-"
"Yes, yes, sweetheart, all of that happened and much more, but you need to slow down. Take a breath before you pass out, ok? I swear, you're becoming more and more like your father the more you ramble…" Ochako chided with a bemused expression as Reiko nodded and took in a large gulp of air and completely unaware of her brother's unamused stare.
"I think she's taking more after you with how bubbly she is," Izuku countered with a grin, snickering when his wife began pouting before coming to a stop. "Alright, here we are. Time to set up and have fun. You all ready?"
"We are, Daddy! But can you tell us the story of your first time here while we get ready? I really wanna know what happened," Reiko asked, looking at her parents with her large eyes that made both of their hearts clench at the sight of it.
"Yeah, Dad! Can you and Mom and Sis tell us about your first vacation here? You never really did tell us about it before…" Toshi questioned while turning his head to Eri, who looked back at him with a pondering expression.
"…I don't think it ever came up. Whenever we visit here, you and Rei were either too young to really understand what we went though back then or you were too busy having fun. In fact, I don't think you'd be interested at all if Dad didn't mention it off hand…" Eri shrugged, a small smile forming on her lips as Toshi stared at her in disbelief.
"Seriously?"
"She's right, honey. You and Rei weren't really interested in hearing about our little adventure here in the past. You two were more excited with having fun at the beach and parks and with your grandparents than anything. We couldn't even tell you about it as a bedtime story because you exhausted yourselves so quickly," Ochako explained, grinning at the pouty expressions of her two adorable children before giving them both gentle pats on the head. "But, since you asked, we can spend a little time telling you two about our first time here while we set up. We have all day here at the beach, after all."
"Really!?" Reiko and Toshi exclaimed, both of them staring at their parents and sister with such excited expressions that the three of them couldn't help but laugh.
"Of course, we will. We can even have an early lunch while we tell the story. I just hope that you kids will like it," Izuku said, his grin turning sheepish as he set the cooler down.
"Of course we will, Daddy! We love all the stories you, Mom and Big Sis tell us! Your organ story is still my favorite story that you tell us!" Reiko chirped.
"Its 'origin', Rei. Organ is something completely different," Toshi corrected, face deadpan as his little sister stuck her tongue out to him, before focusing his attention back to his father. "She's still right, though. Your stories are really good and I never get tired of hearing them. I doubt we'd get bored of this one, especially since it includes Mom and Eri too. I'm excited to hear it!"
Izuku could only stare at his son for a few moments before looking away, the boy's bright expression proving to be a bit much for the man, especially with his baby sister being just as shining. After a moment, the Pro Hero proceeded to nod at the pair with a massive grin on his face, looking quite eager to share his story. It was a tale that he, nor Ochako or Eri, didn't really share all too often, but one that was still quite memorable to them. With the fun that they had and the fights they had to do, their first trip to Hawaii was certainly a special one, and seeing his children wanting to know more about it really did warm his heart. With an aura of happiness, the man began to tell the tale of the Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride that he, his wife, and his oldest child had participated in eight years ago. A ride that he doubt he would ever forget…
After all, who would've imagined a simple vacation that doubled as helping his in-laws move in to their home would turn out to be a villain laced, Nomu filled adventure with animal rescuing and 'unauthorized Quirk usage' in the mix? Certianly not him or the others, but considering the things that happened in his life prior to that, he should've saw it coming…
"So, Daddy! How did your adventure with Mom and Big Sis start?"
"Well, it started back at our old apartment, Rei. On the day we were leaving for vacation and to help your grandparents move it. All of us were so excited the night before that we ended up sleeping late. As a result, we missed our alarms and didn't wake up until Grandma Inko and Grandpa Toshinori showed up. That morning ended up being a bit...hectic to say the least."
Many Years Ago...
Tokyo, Japan
Home of Izuku, Ochako and Eri
Chaos. That was the only thing that could aptly describe the Midoriya-Uraraka apartment that brisk winter morning. There were rapid footsteps echoing the home, various articles of clothing flying and floating around the bedrooms, cries of panic overlapping each other, and one very amused orange cat sitting on the kitchen counter watching everything unfold. It was the sight that the retired hero Toshinori Yagi and his friend and caretaker Inko Midoriya walked into just a few minutes ago, and both were stunned silent by what they were witnessing.
It wasn't often to see Izuku, Ochako and Eri running and screaming like headless chickens, after all…
"DEKU, WHERE'S MY SUITCASE!? I THOUGHT YOU SAID IT WAS IN THE BEDROOM!"
"UNDER THE BED, WHERE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE!"
"THE TRAVELING SUITCASE, NOT THE HERO ONE!"
"THEY'RE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER! I PUT THEM THERE BEFORE I LEFT FOR WORK YESTERDAY!"
"WELL IT'S NOT THERE NOW! HELP ME FIND IT!"
"I CAN'T! I'M HELPING ERI FINDING HER SUNSCREEN! HAWAII'S STILL HOT AT THIS TIME AND SHE GETS SUNBURNT EASY! AND I STILL NEED TO FIND MY BOOTS! I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND THEM FOR TWO DAYS NOW!"
"MOM, CHECK THE CLOSET! I THINK YOU SAID YOU MOVED YOUR SUITCASE THERE BEFORE YOU WENT TO BED LAST NIGHT!"
"AHA! IT'S HERE! THANKS, SWEETIE! AND DEKU, I FOUND YOUR BOOTS! THEY WERE IN THE CLOSET BEHIND THE SUITCASE!"
"OCHAKO YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! NOW WE JUST NEED TO CLEAN UP AND WE'RE GOOD TO GO!"
"WE'LL GET IT DONE, DAD! IT'S LIKE GRANDPA TOSHI SAYS! GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!"
"PLUS ULTRA!" "PLUS ULTRA!"
"…I honestly have no words to say about this," Toshinori muttered with a palm on his face, his cheeks growing in embarrassment as his former students and their adopted child cheered using the UA creed in his honor.
"I think it's adorable, really. It sort of reminds me of the time Hisashi and I scrambled around our apartment to leave for our honeymoon because we overslept. It's like I'm reliving the past watching my son and his girlfriend doing the same thing," Inko cooed emotionally, her eyes watering as she saw her son zooming around the apartment and gathering the scattered clothes while completely missing Toshinori's incredulous stare.
"Grandma Inko! Grandpa Toshi! Are you guys ready, too?" Eleven-year-old Eri Midoriya said as she approached the two elders, dressed in a sky-blue coat that went past her knees, a pair of black leggings and a white suitcase rolling behind her.
"We are, honey. We're just waiting for your parents to be ready so that we can get going. Looks like things got a little wild here, huh?" Inko questioned as a stray pink sock flew out of her slightly less panicky son's grasp and landed on her dark green peacoat, causing her to giggle.
"I think that's putting it mildly, Inko…" Toshinori muttered, a shadowed eye twitching when he felt something soft and lacy fall on his head his head. Before he could determine what it was, though, it disappeared almost as soon as it appeared thanks to an apologetic a profusely blushing Ochako in a pink jacket and black pants.
"Sorry! So sorry! We're almost ready! Just need to pack a few things and let Aizawa know we're on our way! Forget you saw anything!" The embarrassed hero exclaimed, clutching the unknown garment tightly before running back to her room just as a peacoat clad Izuku came out of it with a green suitcase in one hand and speaking on his phone with the other.
"We're about to head out now, sir. Thanks for taking care of Mikan for us. I promise to get you, Ms. Sosaki and Kota something during our trip as thanks. See you in a bit," Izuku said before shutting down his phone and turned to his mother and mentor with a sheepish expression. "Sorry about this, Mom. All Might. The three of us got a little excited last night and had a bit of trouble sleeping. Took us a while to finally get to bed and ended up sleeping through our alarms as a result. I hope you guys weren't waiting for too long."
"Not at all, Young Izuku. We simply got here early. A little too early, from the looks of it," Toshinori laughed.
"I called your father before I left, Izuku. The hotel that you and your family's staying at is already set and paid for by him as his Christmas present for you all. Looks like you're all set, there," Inko spoke up with a kind smile and her hands together as Eri grabbed the sock from the mother's coat and left to put it away.
"Awesome. That's one less thing to worry about. Remind me to thank Dad when we see him. We owe him so much for everything he's done for us," The young hero said in gratitude just as both Eri and Ochako returned, the younger rolling around a pink suitcase while the older was talking on her phone while carrying a portable cat cage with her other hand, unintentionally mimicking Izuku's actions from earlier.
"You're at the airport already? Great! We're heading there now. Just need to drop off Mikan at Aizawa's home and then we'll meet up. See you and Mama soon, Daddy! Love you!" The woman said with a kiss at the end before shutting her phone off and turning to her boyfriend and foster-daughter with a stern expression. "Alright, you two, let's get moving! We may be running late, but if we hustle now, we should be able to make it to the airport without being late! Mikan, get your furry butt in the cat carrier now. You are spending the week with Sensei and Ms. Sosaki, so you better be on your best behavior. That means being nice to Kuroyuki during your stay. If I get a call from Kota saying you set the poor thing's fur on fire again, you will be on floating time out the second we get back. Got it?"
"Mrow!" Mikan mewed, nodding at his owner's words before hopping off the counter and trotting into the cage without complaints, even going so far as to close the door to it on his own with its tail before Ochako locked it with a satisfied smile on her face, much to the amazement of the eldest in the apartment.
"…I will never stop being surprised by how intelligent that feline truly is," Toshinori muttered while Inko simply giggled at what had just occurred.
"You get used to it. Took us a while, too, but having an intelligent pet around the house does has its fair share of charms. Even if he is a bit of a smart-alec at times," Ochako said with a playful glare at the cage in her arms before focusing her attention back to the others. "Alright, that's enough chatter! It's time to head out or else we'll be late! It's finally time to give my hardworking folks the life they deserve and we're gonna make sure it goes off without a hitch! Let's do this!"
"Right!" Everyone cheered with a fist in the air, all of them caught up in the bubbly woman's commanding nature, and with a multitude of laughs after coming to their senses, the group left the apartment and to Inko's car, where they stored their luggage in the trunk and made their way to their destinations.
The first stop that they had to make was at Aizawa's apartment to drop off Mikan. Since the fire breathing cat was so old and have been through a lot of scrapes over the years, the couple were worried that the trip would be too much for him, so they decided to leave him with the best cat sitter they knew. The fact that Shino Sosaki and Kota have also started living with them as of late was also a big help; assuring Izuku and Ochako that their pet will be well taken care of and properly disciplined if he gets too unruly. With that all taken care of, the extended family made their way to the airport as quickly as they could while still obeying proper traffic laws, despite Eri's insistence of Ochako making the car float and have Izuku use his Air Force technique to essentially fly them to their destination.
"Eri, you know how reckless that idea is. One mistake and we will all end up crashing Mom's car into a wall or tree or something. Just because we're in a hurry doesn't mean we have to resort to such tactics."
"But it will cut our time by a lot, Dad! Aren't we in a hurry?"
"We are, but that's no reason to do something so dangerous. We're off duty anyways, so we're technically not allowed to use our powers like that right now unless it's an emergency."
"With how Mom was acting about how late we've been, I think this counts as one. Besides, you've gotten much better at controlling Air Force than the first time you two tried the trick! It'll work out fine, I'm sure!"
"Please don't bring that up, sweetie. I still have flashbacks about it. The fact that Kaminari and Mina keep begging us to take them on 'flying car rides' doesn't help either."
"Sorry, Mom… Didn't mean to bring up bad memories."
"It's fine, Eri. They weren't that bad. We landed in a snow drift at least, so we got out safely at least."
"Not all of us. Remember what happened to Aoyama and Hagakure?"
"Oh yeah… Forgot about that…"
"Huh? What happened to-"
"You don't want to know."
The comment caused a boisterous laugh to erupt from Toshinori while Inko simply giggled, her eyes focused on the road. Though unintentionally, Eri did manage to help make her foster parents lose much of their anxiety over being late, especially Ochako's, and as a result, the trip to the airport was much smoother than initially. It also made the trip feel faster as well, as not long after the tension was cut, the group finally found themselves at the airport. With no time to spare, Ochako got out of the car before anyone else and quickly opened the trunk, pulling out everyone's luggage and handing them to everyone before heading off to the massive building before them, ignorant of the confused and incredulous expressions from her boyfriend, foster-daughter, former teacher and future mother-in-law as they followed her. It didn't take too long for them to catch up, thankfully, because as soon as they saw her, she was in the middle of hugging a pair of adults as old as Inko and Toshinori. It didn't take them long to realize that they were her parents, who were laughing as energetically as their daughter as they returned the embrace and greeted them at the same time.
"Yo, everyone! Glad you lot could made it in time! We were just about to head in without ya!" Mr. Uraraka joked, waving one hand at the group while holding his heroic child with the other.
"Sorry about that. All of us slept in a little and missed our alarms. Mom and All Might had to wait for us for a while before we were all ready. It was kinda hectic." Izuku apologized sheepishly.
"No worries, dearie. Ochako told us everything this morning when we called to check up. It's understandable. In fact, the two of us were nearly late ourselves as well. It's a big day for us, after all," Mrs. Uraraka chirped with her hands clapped together and a sweet smile aimed at the Midoriyas (And lone Yagi)
"It is, and if we stand around here for too long, we will end up missing that day entirely. Best that we hurry and check in or the plane will leave without us," Toshinori spoke up as he pointed at the check out stations.
"That's right! Let's go everyone! We don't wanna be late!" Eri chimed in with an excited shout, causing the adults to laugh at her exuberance before Izuku went over to her and grabbed her hand.
"That we don't, Eri. That we don't." He said kindly before heading over to the check in area with the others, all ready to turn in their luggage and begin their vacation and, in the case of the former construction workers, a new life…
"HA! We made it in time! Come, La Brava! We must hurry and check in before our flight departs! We worked too hard for our vacation to Hawaii and we are not about to miss it!"
"Yes, Gentle! I will follow you to the ends of the Earth, my love!"
"Wow, those two are quite loud and kooky, huh? Isn't that supposed to be my schtick?"
"I thought they were pretty interesting. Especially the small one that's professing her love. I wonder how her blood will taste…
"Twice, Toga, quit your dillydallying. Just because we're going on a mission in Hawaii doesn't mean you two can slack around. Hurry up and let get going before Shigaraki gets pissy at us."
"Aye, Sir!" "Coming, Dab!"
Unaware of the adventure that was about to unfold during their time away from home…
Author's Note
And there you have it! The first chapter of Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride is complete! More of a prologue than anything, but it's still a fairly decent beginning if I say so myself. Expect the remaining chapters to be a bit longer than this, so if you lads miss me writing long stories, look forward to that! And again, massive thanks to my friend from the IzuOcha server, Mika, for allowing me to use her O.C kids, Reiko and Toshi, in this story. She is also making the coverart as well, so look forward to that when it's done! Expect the next chapter to show up in about a week. This here is a special project for me so I am going to need quite a bit of time for it to get it done! With everything said, thank you all so much for reading my work! I hope you all have a fantastic day and I will see you all in the next update!
Until then, farewell. And remember! Go Beyond! Plus Ultra!
