Gaius and the Bruum:
The day was cloudy, and rather rainy. Gaius walked the halls of the old, enormous castle. He carried with him a single object. An old broom. He arrived at the physician's quarters and walked inside. He'd finished with the broom, and needed it no more... for now.
He walked to the table in the middle of the room and sat himself down to mix some herbs he would be needing that day. He started grinding them up, mixing them together.
Merlin burst through the door to his room with a loud groan. "I'm going to be late. Arthur will be furious," he announced, swinging his jacket over his back, ducking and then pulling the sleeves on.
In his surprise at Merlin's hasty entrance, Gaius knocked a glass vile off the table. 'So much for being finished with the broom.' Gaius thought to himself. "Merlin, fetch me that bruum... would you?"
Merlin sighed and fidgeted where he stood. "Gaius, I'm already late."
"Yes, but passing me a bruum will make you no later. Stop wasting time." The old man held his hand out expectantly and raised an eyebrow at Merlin.
The young man pursed his lips, and they moved into a thin, straight line. He jogged toward the broom and grabbed it, hurriedly giving it to Gaius. Gaius took the broom and thwapped Merlin on the head with the bristle side of it.
"AAWHhhhAww! Gaius, what was that for?" Merlin asked, pulling a face and putting both hands on top of his head.
"For complaining... now be on your way!"
Merlin rushed out of the room. As soon as he was gone, the old physician chuckled, smiling and sweeping up the mess he'd made. He looked at the door, picturing Merlin's face after being swatted. Gaius laughed again and shook his head. Within a short time, he'd cleaned up the mess, putting it in a trash bin. He placed the broom in its spot in the corner then went back to the table to mix his herbs.
He'd only just sat down, when he elbowed a pouch onto the floor. The pouch, which had been opened, exploded in a white, powdery mess. Gaius sputtered, waving his arms in the air and groaning, "Oh no..."
He picked up the pouch and closed it, sealing in what was left of the powder. With a grudging sigh, he stood up and headed toward—you guessed it, the broom. "Perhaps I should just keep this with me... in case of another mess," he announced to no one. He didn't mind the mess, he simply minded that he'd made so many of them today. He chuckled though, glad that he didn't have Merlin's job... which required him cleaning up after the prince, as well as himself.
Gaius and the broom cleaned up the mess... and he spent the rest of the day carrying it around with him, just as he'd said he would.
THE END(?)
