Waiting

The top of Dean's head appearing from behind the kitchen counter was her only warning before hearing "Today, Mommy?"

Mary smiled, ruffling Dean's hair. "No, honey. Not just yet."

Dean nodded before chewing his lip thoughtfully. "Tomorrow?"

Covering her face with her hand, Mary did her best not to laugh. They'd just told Dean about his soon-to-be brother or sister and she couldn't decide which was worse on him - waiting for the baby or Santa Claus.

"Soon, baby, I promise."

"For Christmas then?" Dean asked after a moment's thought.

She finally gave in to the laughter, hugging Dean tight.
