"I love you."
The words sounded more like a question than a statement. And had come out a little too fast, and a bit too loud.
The sudden noise had startled Elphaba, and the book she was so engrossed in seconds before lay on the floor, slightly bent at the corner that had first collided with the hard ground. Elphaba frowned as she picked it up and surveyed the damage, running her finger up and down the spine to see that it was in tact, and lovingly dusting off the cover with her sleeve.
Glinda sat on her pink frilly mess of a bed, her hand securely over her mouth, thinking that she really must learn to keep quiet. No matter how stunning the green girl sitting across from her looked when the sun hit her hair just right, coloring it a deep shade of blue. Or, when with that same blue tint in her hair, she would absentmindedly bite at her bottom lip. It's just not fair to think that anyone could keep anything to themselves with a green skinned goddess in the room.
"Huh?" Elphaba looked up from her book, raising an arched eyebrow.
"I…love you, Elphie." she repeated, her voice unsteady, and a blush quickly rising to her cheeks, but her eyes strong and forceful and locked with Elphaba's.
The green skinned girl stared at the pink and blonde ball of nerves in front of her and blinked.
"I love you too, Glinda…" She said, a slight smile pulling at the corners of her mouth.
Glinda exhaled a breath she didn't realize she had been holding as her heart leapt nearly out of her chest. She bound across the room and jumped onto Elphaba, almost knocking her over with the force of her hug.
"Oh Elphie! I'm so glad you feel the same!" She sang, tears of joy threatening to spill over her rosy cheeks.
Elphaba pulled back from her roommates hug and looked into her sky blue eyes, puzzled at her roommate's reaction.
"Of coarse I love you Glinda, you're my best friend…" She paused, thinking. Wanting the perfect words for the way she felt, "the… sister I wished I could have had." she smiled warmly at her roommate.
Glinda's smile dropped only for a second before she caught it and smiled even bigger than before. Although maybe not as much with her eyes this time, or her heart for that matter.
"Yes. Exactly." Glinda mused, thinking that it would be much easier this way.
"Sisters." She said, and smiled with even less eyes and heart than before.
