There's an urgent-sounding knock on Amy Ordman's door. Amy's face is covered in tears, mascara streaming down her cheeks; she had been pacing the room for the past hour in a vain attempt to quiet her chaotic mind. Her trembling hand swings open the door anxiously and there stands a concerned Alexis G. Zall, eager to play the role of best friend. Without hesitation, Alexis steps towards Amy to give her an exceptionally warm and affectionate hug.

Amy's body becomes immersed in Alexis's embrace, igniting an outburst of sorrow and heavy sobbing. In between each anguishing thought and panting breath, Amy tries forcing out a few words: "... it's over … Amanda, she …" But that's all she can get out before the heartache overwhelms her, once again succumbing to an utter helplessness; powerful, uncontrollable, and inevitable from the reminiscence of so many delightful memories stained in her mind that have just lost all meaning.

Still compassionately held in one's arms, Alexis gently strokes Amy's messy and neglected hair, and reassures her in a softly spoken voice: "It's okay … I won't leave you."

Amy leans back, loneliness and desperation unhidden in her eyes, to find Alexis's comforting gaze paying her attention. In an uncertain and shaky tone, Amy asks: "Do you love me, Alexis?"

She responds, behind a pleasant smile: "How can I not love a goddess?"

The sad and empty eyes displayed on Amy's face moments ago immediately turns into a loving gleam; however, she doesn't realize that she's a victim of her own mind, fiercely attempting to fill the hollow void which is leaving her unsettled.

Thinking she found the answer, she feels a rush of intimacy with Alexis and gives her an open-mouthed kiss on the lips. Alexis jerks her head back, surprised; unsure of the appropriate words, she just stammers: "Amy, I … I didn't mean…"

Amy expresses nothing but silence, stunned at what just happened; embarrassed over her vulnerability. She walks over to the couch in a daze, where she puts her emotionless face into her hands, trying to conceal herself from the world.

The buzz of the air conditioner is the only sound in the room; but it's not the cool air that chills Alexis. She looks on at her best friend, who is just a shell of the fun-loving girl she always knew her as.

Alexis slowly walks towards the couch, still wondering how to calm the uneasiness emanating off of Amy. She sits down close to her and holds her hand, letting her know that she's not alone; that she still cares. As Alexis feels a reassured squeeze to her hand, she places her head delicately onto Amy's shoulder - platonically, but with a loving affection.

No words are spoken for awhile; in this moment, the presence of one another is all that's needed. A tiny smile eventually appears on Alexis's face and she says: "I'm way out of your league anyways."

Amy's mouth gapes open in disbelief and she playfully shoves Alexis's head off her shoulder. "Oh my god! You are not!"

And when they look brightly into each other's eyes, Amy plants a devilishly wet kiss on Alexis's cheek.
