A Child's Heart

Ages: Yaya: 13

Kukai: 15 (I know that it sounds like a three year difference but it's a 2 year and 4 month difference in ages. Yone? XX)

Yaya's POV:

Yaya was standing in her bedroom in the morning light, looking at the calendar in disdain. Two years since he graduated and another four months till she did too. She wished that she could close in the gaps between them. The age gap, the distance gap, the 'friendliness' gap....it seemingly got bigger every day,

At least when we were kids it didn't matter! She thought, hot salty tears dripping down her face. Now he's gone and left poor Yaya on her own. Pepe-chan tried consoling her owner with a small tub of Ben and Jerry's but to no prevail. Yaya was lost in a wave of emotions that she didn't fully understand.

Then it suddenly hit her like a ton of bricks. She missed him! Of course she had never thought it would feel like this, but the more time she mulled over it, she realised that she hadn't properly seen him in ages. She voiced this out to Pepe-chan who put on her thinking face as a silence fell between the two.

"Why don't you go and meet up with him then?" ventured Pepe-chan, obviously evident that she thought this a great achievement in ideas. Yaya's face mirrored her would be self as they grinned from ear to ear and made a lunge for the victimised phone.

"Pepe-chan got this from Daichi!" she exclaimed loudly and proudly as she took out a number card from the front bag pocket. Yaya punched in the number to the poor battered phone and a sense of joy washed over her as she pressed the call button.

"Moshi Mo.... Yaya!" yelled a bewildered Kukai. "How did you get my number?"

In Kukai's bedroom POV:

Yaya laughed endlessly. "How did you know this was my number?" she giggled down the phone. The conversation instantly froze as he struggled to make coherent words.

"Ah...Um...Be-heh? ...Ahm...I saw your number when you were ringing up Amu-chan?" he began nervously.

"Well, why didn't you call me...Never mind," she smoothly changed all in one breath. "The school is doing a fair if you want to come tomorrow. You have to say you will because otherwise I'm going to be stuck running the cafe with the rest of my class!" she stated like obviously this was a 'no-go'.

"Well, I dunno. I might be able to..."

"Great! I'll meet you at the gate at 8:30 then. Byeee!"

And she hung up.

At the other side Kukai wore not a grin like Yaya but more of a grimace. His stomach was filled with cement as he stared at the ceiling in despair and frustration.

"Daichi?" he called as the Chara appeared on the pile of sports mags that cluttered his bedside table.

"Yes?"

"Could this be counted as a (sweatdrop) ...date?"

"I should think that it is, if you count it as one."

"Ok... oh, and one more thing. What are Yayas' favourite chocolates?" he asked, reddening slightly as he struggled to keep his cool composure.

Normal POV:

So each of the teenagers went to their own preparations of getting ready for the next day. And unknown to each other, both of them smiled for the same reason.

Sorry if it was kind of jumpy on perspectives.

If you have any suggestions to what they do in the school fair, do post it in a review and I will use the good ones and try to at least mention them all as what other guardians do.

R and R please! XX
