Too Big a Storm
By: Seto'sgal29
He watched her slowly cross the office from her lonely desk. The clicking of her heels was in sharp contrast to the stagnant quite of the warm room. Colonel Roy Mustang found himself, he hoped out of sheer boredom, asking himself questions about his subordinate officer. He wondered about her childhood. He could see as the lonely tomboy who would rather play cops and robbers that dolls. No, she wasn't like any of the other women he met on a nightly basis. He wouldn't ask them about their childhoods because they were all the same.
"Lieutenant, what was your childhood like?"
She stopped midway between the door and his desk to slowly look at him.
"It wasn't anything important, sir."
"Why not?"
"It was typical, that's all, I was never anything special."
There's so much more
than empty conversations
Filled with empty words
He watched her slowly breathe in and out, as rhythmic as her constant presence in his day.
He found himself wondering about her adolescence. He could see a beautiful, if not awkward young woman uncomfortable with her blooming destiny as her friends went off on their dates with the cute boys from English class. He wouldn't ask any of the other women about their teenage years because they were all the same. No, Riza probably never experimented with makeup. Her hands were probably never were soft and they never smelled of jasmine. They were worn, blistered and broken, the hands of a loyal military dog.
"Lieutenant, what were your teen years like?"
She heavily sighed, turning to watch him sit casually on his mahogany desk.
"I don't really remember."
"Do you remember when we first meet Lieutenant?"
"Yes sir."
He smiled.
"Tell me about it."
In his heart, too big a storm was building as he heard the sweet lullaby of her voice rekindle stories of him walking in on her as she awkwardly tried to get into her uniform. Her hair in a haphazard bun, her golden strains framing her reddened face. She stammered out an apology, but all he could do was laugh. If only he had known he had loved her then, then now he understand why he felt as if he was going to explode with pain every time he watched her walk away.
You're on fire burning at these mysteries
And that's when her stories were stopped. His kiss was intoxicating, soft, demanding. In her heart, too big a storm was building as her loyalties crumbled like a weakened building in a earthquake, like a ship in a hurricane. No, not Colonel, but Roy, the man she loved.
Her knight in shinning armor.
And I'm on fire when
you're near me
I'm on fire when you speak
I'm on fire burning
at these mysteries.
"I didn't like to play cops and robbers as a child if that was what you were thinking."
He hadn't laughed like that since he saw her half naked the first time they met.
And that was the sacred simplicity of her at his side.
Seto'sgal29: I'm not really sure how the two of them meet, but I can imagine it being really hilarious, like Roy walking in on Riza changing into her uniform. That would be real funny. Anyways...R&R!
