The Darkness Chronicles- Chapter one
I ran through the forest… somebody was definitely on my tail. I could feel it in my bones. I felt the wind curve around my sleek body as I ran on. I felt as if I had been running for hours. I heard a strange, loud, whirring noise in the distance, and it got louder. My paws ached as I trekked on. I was on the verge of falling over from exhaustion when I saw a light on the trees in front of me. It seemed to be coming from behind me. I turned around… just as it hit me… and I fell to the ground.
"No fair!" I yelled. "You always get the first half of the squirrel!" I jumped on my brother and he let out a yelp. He flipped over so his belly was facing up. He smiled mischievously as he poised his legs to a place where he could strike out no matter what I do. I pretended to walk away, and waited until he lowered his defenses, when I whirled around and threw my paw right across his chest. He yelped and clumsily pulled himself off the ground. "No fair..." he said defensively, "I wasn't ready…" he started to smooth out his thick fur. All the pups were just starting to grow their winter coats. "Darksun! Darksun, guess what?!" I whirled around and saw a young wolf running toward me. I recognized him as my best friend Burningfragment. "Hey Burn!" I shouted happily. I had been having a long day, because as an earlier litter, I was now required to care of mother's newest litter. Burn was the only wolf my age that was fun to be around. He was a pup from one of Mother's closest litterhood friends. "Want to check out something cool Darky?" I rolled my eyes, I hated when he used my nickname. My litter-sister walked up behind me and smirked. "Is Burn going to invite you on a stroll through the forest?" she said while nudging me with her flank. "Shut up Purple…" I said irritably. Purplepaint yapped in enjoyment. I ignored her and turned to Burningfragment. "So what's up Burn?" He grinned and began to get anxious. "Just follow me" he yelped, and took off into the forest. I looked into the rosebush clearing where Mother made her den. "Mother, can I please go follow Burn? I promise I'll look after your pups when I get back." When she nodded, I happily bounded after Burningfragment, not knowing that I wouldn't come back…
