Well... I'm don't think this is exactly epic fail, and I hope I din't completely bomb the May and Ash's personalities. I tried hard, but I'll only know if I succeded if you guys review. This is mostly just Ash and May interaction.

The last few days had been a whirlwind for our heroes. Ash, aspiring Pokemon Master, had just finished up his last battle with the Sinnoh Pokemon League. And he'd placed first. After six years of trying to reach this goal, he'd finally achieved it. Right before the Sinnoh League challenge commenced, the Johto Grand Festival had ended, with May as the runner-up. She'd missed the first half of Ash's assent to victory, but she was there for his final battles, along with Brock, Dawn, Max, Misty, and Tracey. Max had come from home and after this, he was going on his own Pokemon journey. Misty left the gym for three days as did Tracey from the lab, traveling together by boat.

After witnessing Ash receive his trophy with Pikachu and his participating Pokemon, there was a bit of a party. The top 64 and any of their invitees were allowed. There was of course, a buffet, side games and contests, music, and dancing. Our favorite two friends can be seen by the buffet, trying to out-eat each other. "I know you won the Sinnoh League, but no way are you beating me!" May exclaimed, downing a bowl of ramen. "Oh yeah? Watch me!" and Ash proceeded to down two sandwiches and a yakitori. After stuffing their tummies for a half hour, they decided on a tie (mostly because May was holding six empty bowls in her hands).

After staying and laughing for two hours straight, they all regrouped. Brock had been hitting on every pretty girl, Misty and Tracey had entered a dance competition, which resulted in them mopping the floor with the rest of the competition. Max played every game set up in the area, winning two huge bags of Poke collectibles and a giant plush Treecko. And Dawn was trying in vain to win every game Max did, if just to spite him from his exclamations that she 'played like a girl'.

For old times sake, they camped out in the nearby forest, complete with a nice big fire, and sleeping bags scattered all around, littering the clearing. Included were countless Pokemon out eating and backpacks/knapsacks/fanny packs that posed aas fire hazards. Brock was preparing dinner with Misty's help while Tracey sketched with Max looking on. Dawn was looking for berries while the sun was still up and Ash was sitting on his bum taking in the delicious smells of a gaint pot of Brock's best stew.

So no one noticed May slip away, save one. She was at the railing of a nearby lake, leaning against it, admiring the pinks, reds and oranges. Smiling, she looked off to the left where the sun was, giggling slightly as the wind tickled her face.

"Watchin' the sunset?" came Ash's lower voice from behind her.

"Yeah. It's so nice at this time" May responded as Ash moved to stand besides her. "So, what're you gonna do after this?" May asked, turning to face Ash.

"Visit my mom, I guess. Then look to go to the next region." While answering, he noticed how the sun reflected onto May's blue eyes, creating a beautiful glint.

"But I feel like it's the end of this journey, since I beat the League. I mean, am I a Pokemon Master if I've finally accomplished what I set out to do in the beginning?" Ash pondered out loud, a thoughtful look on his face.

"Ash, you know, there's still a lot left" May said, smiling slightly.

In a never ending journey

The roads are split apart

A chapter wrote us in a story

I finished you or start

And even though it feels like the end, my friend

You know it's only the beginning

It's the beginning…

"There's still people to meet and visit and things to see, even though we may feel like we've seen, heard, and touched everything with our lives already" May said, in a tone that was filled with anticipation towards the things to come.

Together we'll make a promise

To never forget it all

We've only scratched the surface

Of worlds we'll come to know

Together moving forward

Even though we're far apart

So safe and sound inside our hearts

We keep our word until we are together once again

"So I guess tomorrow's it, huh?" Ash asked, turning to her, a bit of sadness in his voice.

"Yeah" May responded, her small smile turning neutral.

"But we'll keep in touch right?" Ash asked. After all, May was one of his best friends.

" 'Course Ash", May responded with a smile, making Ash sport his trademark grin as well.

And if you hear me in a raindrop

I'm not that far away

You can see in your reflection

Another side of me

And even though we say goodbye, goodbye

We'll never be alone,

No we're not alone…

"I can't wait to head to the next region, to tell the truth" Ash admitted. "All new Pokemon, 'cept Pikachu. He'll always be with me" he added on, referencing to his eternal friend, who was at this moment eating dinner.

"Yeah, I've been feeling the urge to enter another Pokemon Contest soon, as well. There's another whole Grand Festival, waiting for me to win" May proclaimed, eyes shining with excitement.

Together we'll make a promise

To never forget it all

We've only scratched the surface

Of worlds we'll come to know

Together moving forward

Even though we're far apart

So safe and sound inside our hearts

We keep our word until we are together once again

"And whenever we want to come visit the other, we can, right?" May asked to Ash, who currently was looking straight up at the many colored sky.

"Always May. Can't refuse to have you with me again. Though I'd never want to refuse anyway" Ash replied, grinning at her again. May displayed a slight blush then a small giggle.

"What's so funny?" Ash asked, not having a clue about why she was giggling.

"You just seem so happy about the prospect of us traveling together."

"What, you're not?" Ash asked, his smile disappearing.

"I am!" May clarified, putting a hand on his shoulder to reassure him. "In fact, I'd much rather travel with you than strike out in a new region all by myself" she said. "But even if we don't travel together, we'll always remember the good times we had, m'kay?" she smiled at Ash, her hand still on her shoulder, prompting his own again, before moving to sit on the rail.

So goodbye to you

And everything we went through

We made it to the ending and

The other side of the moon

Goodbye to you

We'll hold to the memories

Of the good times

"Ash, remember when we won that contest together?" May asked, in the midst of all her thoughts of memories with Ash.

"How could I not?" Ash replied. That battle between him and May and Blaziken and Sceptile was definitely memorable in his mind.

"Do you still have your half of the ribbon with you?" May asked, just a bit curious. During the Wallace Cup, he'd had it, but maybe he'd sent it home, or…"

"'Course May. I always keep it with me." He rummaged in the pocket of his pants for a second and then pulled it out.

"You keep it in your pocket?!" May asked, just a bit incredulous. She expected Ash to keep it somewhere in his backpack, where it would take him ten minutes to find.

"Yeah, yours?" Ash replied. May hopped off the rail and pulled it out the pocket of her orange mini-dress.

"See?" May held it up and beamed when Ash put his half to hers.

"We'll always be connected, through each of our halfs. And when we're together again… I guess we'll be even more connected."

Together we'll make a promise

To never forget it all

We've only scratched the surface

Of worlds we'll come to know

"May?"

"Yeah Ash?"

"I… I'm really gonna miss ya once we separate" he managed to say, though facing the ground, just a slight tint of pink across his cheeks. It wasn't every day Ash admitted feelings like these.

"Me too" May replied and Ash looked up to see her sadly smiling.

"But we'll travel around together again okay?" Ash reassured her, hoping to cheer her up.

"Somewhere with gyms and Contests" May responded as Ash'd hoped, her genuine smile returning.

"Oh and Ash?" May said, stepping closer until her face was about six inches from his.

"Yeah?" he replied, the light red noticeable upon both of their faces.

"Thanks Ash. For being a great friend." She then pulled him into a loose hug. After abut a second, he reacted and hugged her back, his arms around her back. It felt really nice to hold May like this, and they both felt that nice fuzzy feeling of belonging.

Together moving forward

Even though we're far apart

So safe and sound inside our hearts

It's all inside our hearts…

"Thank you to you, too May" he whispered, slightly bending his head to May's ear, just so she could barely hear him. This elicited a deep red blush that spread across her face. Afrter about a few seconds of hugging, they released each other with a smile and without a word, proceeded back to the campfire side-by-side to join their friends. But even though they weren't audibly expressing their most innermost feelings, the strong reassurance of friendship between them was deep enough.

And who's to say they won't be together in a matter of days, setting off on their next adventure.

Together we'll make a promise…

I'm thinking of adding on a more definite ending to that takes place after this one-shot. Tell me what you think that in your reviews!
