A/N: I own no part of the movie or the characters. The only thing that is mine here is the plot.
For Phil Coulson, growing up hearing stories of the great Captain America's exploits had always been amazing. Especially because his grandmother had known him so well.
Some of Phil's earliest (and best) memories were visiting Peggy Carter-Coulson on the weekends. He would run up the porch steps and tackle hug her, begging her to tell him a new story about Captain America. To him, the stories would never get old. How Steve had started as a 90-pound kid with asthma and high blood pressure, and ended by giving his life for his country. Imagine his excitement when they found the Captain frozen in the ice like a popsicle.
The first thing he'd done after leaving was leapt into his car and squealed like a teenage girl. He rushed to his grandmother's house to tell her the good news. He hadn't been able to stay long, but he promised to bring some pictures of Steve, or even better, the man himself.
Phil hadn't been able to keep the promise until a little while after the incident in New York, when he'd just finished his first mission with the Avengers. They had brought him along as an honorary member, and then paired him with the man out of time.
The two of them were walking along on the roof a building, heading back to their assigned meeting place, when Phil could no longer hold it in.
"Hey Captain, do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" asked the SHIELD agent, trying not to sound too excited.
"Sure," replied Steve. "It's going to take a little while to get to the others, anyway." On the other end of the com, Steve heard sounds of muffled laughter, no doubt from the other Avengers.
"Careful Capsicle. If he starts, he won't stop!" Steve heard Tony squeeze in between bouts of loud laughter. It can't be that bad, Steve thought to himself.
"How did it feel before you took the serum? Did you have a lot of friends? Was it scary? Did you have as many fans?" Phil fired, no longer trying to hide his enthusiasm, and barely giving the Captain any time to reply. When he paused to take a breath, Steve began answering.
"It was terrible before I got the serum, and it was also scary. I don't know how I survived that long without it. I didn't have that many friends, just Bucky and a girl named Peggy Carter. I-" he was cut off by Coulson. It didn't help that Tony and Clint were still laughing.
"Did you just say Peggy Carter?" Phil all but screamed. Steve began to feel nervous. Had he just insulted one of the top SHIELD agents?
"Yes, she was my first love," Steve admitted. Phil looked like Christmas had come early. When they reached the quinjet, he skipped away.
"Bye Cap!" called Phil over his shoulder, still feeling on top of the world and left Steve staring after him. Slowly, the Captain turned and began walking towards the other Avengers while trying to wrap his mind around what just happened. When he reached the others, they burst out laughing.
"What did you do to him, Capsicle?" Tony asked between large gasps for breath. He looked like a fish out of water.
"Did you propose to him or something?" added Clint, not looking too much different. Steve just stood there and shook his head while the others continued laughing. He just didn't understand the people of this new century. At all.
A/N: Hello, all! This is my first contribution for the Avengers universe, and was mostly a test to see whether or not I could write them correctly. Reviews would be greatly appreciated, and if you have any feedback, please feel free to tell me! Flames will be completely ignored.
