The wind had blown harshly all morning, but had died down after lunch. Jarrod kept busy for a very long time - on purpose. It was one way not to feel the ache caused by Cass Hyatt's bullet which had planted itself in - and killed- his bride Beth. But now he was standing by her grave talking softly.

"I promise, darling, you're hardly forgotten, but I can't live my life on hold. I have to move on." No tears fell as they'd all been cried out, but there was still a choke in his voice. "I don't want you to think I've stopped loving you just because I haven't visited your grave in a spell. There's been a lot going on and it's taking everything I have to help this ranch to keep going.

Nick's as hot tempered as ever, sometimes I think it's a wonder he hasn't put anyone six feet under. Course, he really does have a loyal heart, and the family seem to be able to get through to him at his worst, so, that's good.

We don't know where Gene is, last I heard he was still traipsing all over Europe- hope he finds what he's looking for.

Audra, she's a pretty thing, hope whoever gets her treats her well. If not, I think Nick's fist will get to him before Heath, or I, could stop him." The man fell silent for a moment as this time a tear did manage to slip out from behind closed doors. "I would have killed Cass, I was within inches of doing it, but you know how that got nixed. So, I reckon if anyone hurt Audra it wouldn't just be Nick's fist flying."

Heath is still very much part of this family and if anyone picks a fight with us, he's right there.

My mother is still going strong and I think Father would be pleased with the way she's running things. She could have crumbled after he was killed, but she didn't." Jarrod turned his head as he heard Heath's horse stop at distant. "Reckon, I'd better go, Beth, there's work to be done. But, honey, even should the day come I remarry you'll not hardly be forgotten." With that he man tipped his hat to his wife's grave before climbing up on his horse and riding off with Heath to make a visit to a nearby rancher.
