Chapter 1: The Quest Begins
C.T.K.: Just an idea.
It could be said that Kirby had the most raw power of any of the Smash Brothers. With fireballs, sword strikes, blasters, and explosions, as well as many other abilities, at his disposal, he was at least the most diverse in terms of moveset.
Normally, Kirby could not use all of his powers at one time. He had to pick and choose based on the resources around him. However, while in the Smash Bros competition, Kirby is given unlimited use of his Fighter abilities, as well as some techniques from, Stone, Hammer, and Cutter. Normally these powers are not permanent. The only power in his arsenal that was normally permanent, was his base Inhale/Copy ability. Using it in the Super Smash Brothers competition allowed him to copy another fighter's move.
But like the use of Fighter or Stone in his world, these copied moves were not permanent. One good hit and the ability was lost. Another drawback is that re-obtaining the ability could be rather cumbersome. Once an opponent became wise to his tactics, it became difficult to inhale them. On top of the difficulties of just obtaining the power, they tended to be somewhat less powerful or effective than the originals. Certain modifiers that other fighters could apply to the technique were capped at a certain point for Kirby.
Kirby had one advantage, though. He was young. As far as puffballs go he was just barely out of his toddler ages. His age meant that his powers were still evolving. Not just his physical ablities, his copy ability, too.
Kirby found that his copy abilities could improve through a variety of factors. It could be as simple as figuring out a new trick the power could do, like when he figured out that his tornado ablity could pull elements off of surfaces, or learning a new move, like using Final Cutter with his sword. His encounter with the Squeak Squad led to his finding various scrolls that had helped him realize these moves. The scrolls themselves were simple things, either observation journals on a type of monster, training scrolls for new moves, or scientific journals on the properties of certain elements. Some of them were admittedly hard for the young boy to wrap his head around, but the new perspectives often helped him figure out what his powers were capable of.
Kirby couldn't help but wonder if he could do the same thing with his smash abilities. Maybe he could learn something from the people he copied from and get better use out of the ability. It was worth a shot.
There was the issue that some of the Smashers might not want to relinquish their secrets, but he'd cross that bridge when he came to it. Kirby was always up for a challenge. So, now the question was, who first?
