It was the Battle of Hogwarts, and Neville had something he needed to do. He wandered the halls of Hogwarts aimlessly looking for a certain blonde-haired girl that he had fancied for over three years. He found her dreamily walking down from the Ravenclaw tower.
"Luna! There is something I need to tell you!" he shouted. When she nodded her head not looking at him, he took this as a signal and continued, "Luna, look at me. Listen, we could literally die right now, so I decided that some things could not go unsaid." He stared into the depths of her big gray ones, as she stared into his. He knew what he had to say. "I like you Luna. Not like a friendship like, don't get me wrong, I like you like that as well. What I mean to say is I love you. I love you so much, and with all of this going on," he pointed at the window, "I couldn't bear to die without telling you this."
A huge smile was plastered on Luna's face. Neville had never seen her really smile like that before. She was a very happy person, just didn't really smile. But merlin was she beautiful. "Oh Neville, you won't die! The Heliopaths will protect you; just don't get in their way. They aren't the friendliest of spirits."
"Luna, I am sirius (haha!), I love you. I love that you really believe that Heliopaths are going to save us all. I love how you don't care that people don't believe in Nargles, but you still do. I love that there could be a battle raging outside and you are just so calm. Are you listening to me?" Neville was honestly frustrated with her.
She leaned over to his ear and whispered, "You do know by now that I don't actually believe in Nargles, right? It's just some fable that my father made up a while ago; you know I do believe he is slowly slipping into the grips of insanity." He was absolutely stunned; she started staring off into space again. She was obviously avoiding the topic.
"Luna, I love you." He couldn't be more upfront, and he truly scared himself.
"I know you do. I don't think you really had to repeat it more than once. I was avoiding it because I felt it would probably make you uncomfortable to hear that I love you too. So, can we keep avoiding it?" She looked away, but before she could wander off once more, Neville wrapped his arms around Luna's waist and pulled his lips to hers. She kissed him back before pulling away and just gracefully dancing out of Neville's arms. She started skipping down the hall away from Neville. He ran after her. You know, just making sure she wouldn't be killed by a Death Eater.
