The night had been hot. Even Jaden, whom even Crowler couldn't keep awake, was tossing around in his bed. Below him Jesse, having opted for a nighttime visit, was in a similar predicament. After a myriad of turns, tosses, and twists in the clutches of the all-pervading heat, they both sat up simultaneously -- and groaned.
Then they went swimming.
They snuck out of the Slifer dorm in the heat of the night, wearing only their boxers and towels. The full moon lit their path down the rock disappearing into the ocean, that was quiet but not quite settled. Abandoning their towels on the smooth rock, they dove headfirst into the depths.
And their laughter filled the ocean.
Sometime later, when the moon had moved to kiss the ocean in the horizon, the two boys were sitting side by side, wrapped in their towels. The cool embrace of the ocean had eased their distress, and now they were shivering on the soft surface of the rock like small tits in the palm of man.
The moon gazed at them, and they gazed right back.
"Jesse?"
"Yeah, Jay?"
"It's astounding isn't it."
"It sure is."
"I mean, imagine being on a small rock in the middle of the ocean right now..."
"Our little prince Jaden in his hot little boxers..."
"And I'd be the hot king of that rock!"
"And I'd be the hot pirate taking over your rock!"
"Nah, I'd let you co-king."
"...Why?"
"'Cause then we could have boxer-duels every night!"
"Whatever you say, man."
A nippy wind blew over the dark depths, disturbing the surface into sharp blades. The white, glaring moon loomed over the ocean.
"Jesse?"
"Yeah?"
"Would you live on a rock with me?"
"Jaden, I'm already living on a rock with you."
Prompted by Jesse's confession, their eyes met, searching for the profound truths hidden in the other's look, and probably finding them, too, for when the reflection of the moon flickered on their faces, they both turned back to the calm ocean, smiling softly.
"True," Jaden nodded, and grinned.
They both shivered again and snuggled closer to each other, gazing at the vestiges of the setting moon, side to side, temple to temple, hand to hand.
A hot wind started blowing in the wake of the moon, whose face could not be seen. In the darkness of the stars, Jesse leant to Jaden's ear.
"I like your boxers, Jay."
"Yours too."
They fell asleep hours later.
The next morning the boys woke up to the splashing of waves. Their eyes met again, and they smiled at each other. Following a short morning wrestle between the tangled towels, the two boys stood and darted towards the Slifer Red dormitory--
-- in each other's boxers.
