Scarlet Markings

"Rosemary, what are you doing?" Erza asked as she walked into the bedroom to see her young daughter sitting at her vanity, makeup strewn across the surface. "Nothing mommy" the red haired girl replied as she tried to clean up the mess she had made. Erza noticed her daughter trying to hide her face.

"Rosemary" Erza said in a stern voice. The small mage faced her mother and gave her a weak smile. "Sweetheart, whats that on your face?" she asked as she walked over to her daughter. "I. . . . " Rosemary started but stopped. Erza picked her up and waited patiently for an answer. She pushed her daughters hair out of her face to see what her daughter had been doing with her makeup.

"I wanted to look like daddy" the little girl said in a small voice. Erza laughed but stopped when she saw the serious look on her daughters face. She cleared her throat and sat down in front of the mirror and placed Rosemary in her lap. She grabbed a wipe and began to clean the markings off her face. Rosemary started to protest but Erza cut her off as she told her to look in the mirror.

"What do you see?" Erza asked the little girl as she pulled her hair away from her face. Rosemary stared at her reflection and finally answered her mother "I see a little girl." Erza smiled and kissed her daughters head before saying "You know what I see? I see a pair of striking eyes and strong features. You know what I see when I look at you? I see your father."

Rosemary's face lit up as her mother finished speaking. She smiled and hugged her mother tightly as she squealed "Do you really think so? You really think I look like daddy?"

"Of course sweetheart" she replied as she embraced her daughter. The two parted as they heard the sound of the lock being turned. Rosemary jumped off her mothers lap and ran towards the sound. "Daddy, daddy!" she cried as the door swung open.

"There's my girl!" Jellal said as he scooped her up in his arms.

"Daddy, I look like you!" Rosemary said with excitement.

"Really?!" he said looking quizzically at his wife who had just came into view. Erza smiled and Jellal mouthed "what"? Erza came over and whispered in his ear and he nodded in understanding. "You know what I see when I look at you?" he asked his daughter.

"You?" Rosemary asked. "No, I see your mother" he replied to which Rosemary gave him a confused look. Both parents laughed and then Erza explained. "You see sweetheart, we each see the other in you. When I look at you I see your father and it makes me happy."

Jellal picked up where his wife left off "When I look at you I see the same beauty I see in your mother" Erza smiled at her husband and kissed his cheek at the compliment. Rosemary nodded and hugged her father tighter. She held out a hand to her mother and Erza joined them in their family hug. The three of them parted and after Jellal had put her down Rosemary ran to her room to play. Erza looked at her husband who pulled her close and kissed her sweetly.

"She is a beauty, just like you" Jellal said.

"She has your magic and your temperament" Erza replied. They smiled at each other and said un unison "She's perfect!"
