"I don't like it," Naruto announced one day while they were resting near the river after training.
"Like what?" asked Sakura.
"Avenger—it sounds stupid."
"What are you talking about?"
"For Sasuke. 'The Avenger.' It sounds like he needs a cape or something. There are plenty of other words."
"Name one."
"Asshole."
Sakura rolled her eyes. "You're so predictable."
"Angsty. Angry. Aggravating. Annoying. Abnormal."
"Naruto!" Sakura sat up and bopped him on the head. "Now you're just being mean!"
"Athlete. Adolescent. Aggressive. Afraid."
Naruto's voice slowed.
"Ally."
Sakura was still.
Then, so quietly she almost didn't hear it.
"Absent."
