Done for the song prompt for Celia's B-Day! Woot Woot
Miss Independent: Kelly Clarkson
According To You: Orianthi
"Why do you always insist on being Miss Independent? Can't you ever accept help from someone else? We're your friends Prentiss. I'm your friend."
Emily whipped her head around to face Hotch. "Are you serious? Why am I the one who acts like Miss Independent? When the hell do you ever accept help from someone else? Last time I checked…oh that's right, never!" She shook her head then started to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Hotch asked in bewilderment.
"Away from you. Since when did you become a judgmental asshole Hotch?"
Hotch's mouth hung open. Did she just call me an asshole? He thought to himself. "Well that's your opinion Prentiss."
"Trust me when I say it's not only my opinion. And according to you I don't want anyone else's help." Emily stopped walking and turned back around to face Hotch. "Did you ever stop to think that maybe I just don't want your help? You call us friends, but we don't do anything as friends. We don't hang out, we don't talk. Well…I talk, but you never do. Hell," she laughed. "I'm not even sure if you listen when I talk. You don't share anything with anyone else! You're closed off Hotch. But hey maybe you talk to Dave about stuff like this, but you don't talk to me about important things in your life."
"Prentiss—"
"See what I mean? You don't even call me by my first name! I'm always Prentiss to you unless you're introducing me to someone. Why is that Hotch? Why am I always Prentiss but everyone else you call by their first names?"
"You call me Hotch," he shot back.
"EVERYONE calls you Hotch! Do you want me to start calling you Aaron? I thought that was just something Dave was allowed to do, but hey if I'm allowed to start calling you Aaron I will." She paused and took a deep breath. "I'm tired of this Hotch. I'm tired of being nothing to you."
"What are you talking about? You mean something to me. I just—"
"Don't even say anything Hotch, because I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear how I 'mean' something to you. Especially when you do everything in your power to prove that I don't. I'm just so tired Hotch." They locked eyes and Emily finally looked away first. "Well, if you don't mind, I'm going to get going, because I need to take care of some stuff on my own because as well both know, I don't accept anyone else's help. So sorry to disappoint you, sir." With that, Emily walked quickly out of the conference room, down to her desk, grabbed her bag and walked out of Hotch's sight before he could think of anything to say to stop her.
