No part of the red twilight sky could be seen from inside the rubble that was once a magnificent building. Five floors filled with offices lay in a crumbled heap, only the first ceiling able to still hold itself up, despite the enormous amount of rubble putting weight on it. Dust floated heavily in the still air, it look almost like a yellow-orange fog. A blue light suddenly filled the downstairs room, and a man coughed.
"River?" He shouted, pushing the small fragment of wall off of him. "RIVER!" He repeated, straining his voice painfully. A woman's weak cough came from a few feet away from under a pile of wall fragments. The stone began to shift as the woman tried to move it from on top of her. The Doctor raced over, flinging it off of her with seemingly inhuman strength.
"Hello, Sweetie. Not the usual meeting place." The woman joked as he pulled the last of the rubble off of her. The Doctor sat beside her and pulled her close.
"How do we get out of here?" He asked, looking around the remains of the room.
"I don't think I'll be going anywhere for a while, honey." River said as she tenderly touched her ankle, which he now could see was swollen.
"You'll be going home with me…." He said softly as he reached an arm under her knees and scooped her up bridal-style.
"Doctor!" River gasped as she flung her arms around his neck.
"Well this is a interesting predicament…" He said, not seeming to notice her arms around him as he started walking in the direction of where the door used to be.
"Put me down!" River shouted, and he flinched.
"River, I'm right here… there's no reason to yell." The Doctor laughed, setting her down on a chair. "Are you alright?" He knelt in front of her, taking her ankle into his hands gently, earning a hiss of pain from his female companion. A frown crossed his face when he saw her pained expression. "That's definitely broken…" he muttered.
