Dear Harry,

I just heard the news about the birth of your daughter, Lily. I certainly hope she grows to be beautiful, brave and fair. Just like her mother. As my father says, it's only the mother that can pass on such traits and qualities. It's something beyond men, he says.

Things here are going well. There's always fresh pudding now. I've been apprenticing with Hagrid (Since he and Madame Maxime wed he's been distracted, rightly so.) and we've managed to keep a dragon here at Hogwarts. He's a runt, according to Charlie, but I think Norbert II is much too large to be a runt. Gentle though. Easy to train too. You'll be pleased to know that none of the new children can see the thestrals, and all the nargles are under control.

Neville is doing a wonderful job in Herbology. Enrolment is up. Everyone wants to see the man who stood up against an army of Death Eaters all alone. Even when they called him out on his parents' name. Not that you didn't do well too Harry, you did. Neville just…he's up for head of Gryffindor too.

I must remember to write Hermione to ask what the policy is on professors marrying each other. She's still the foremost authority on the history of Hogwarts.

Dean is also doing very well. And I think he's the right one to break the Defence Against the Dark Arts curse. He was always a quick learner in Dumbledore's Army after all.

Oh, I finished the new portraits. Now the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army fill out the school entrance, looking over us all. It's an odd sensation to see us all looking so young. But also good to see, to remember.

I've been keeping an eye on George. He's settling in well at Hogsmeade, and he's struck up a friendship with Aberforth. Well, until one of those puking pasties gets into the mouth of one of his patrons, but they seem to have an understanding. Having someone who understands always helps.

Teddy Lupin is much easier to look out for – his turquoise hair makes him stand out. He seems like such a nice boy, if not a little clumsy. But Neville's been looking out for him. Says he owes the boy that much. I choose not to ask what he means.

And it was true, what they said. Slughorn did approach Draco Malfoy about taking an apprenticeship as Potion Master here. I hear he turned a splotchy sort of red and muttered something about Snape, Dumbledore and his soul before turning Slughorn down. Just between you and me, I've always thought he was a little strange.

One last thing Harry, if you would; next time you're at the Burrow, could you drop by to see dad? He still feels absolutely awful about trying to trade you for me. He really should have known, after that gnome bite, I would have been fine. But still, he worried.

Give my best to Ginny and the boys.

Love Luna

P.S. There'll be an increase in Blibbering Humdingers this season, so tuck your socks into your shoes.
