"Hey," Toby stood up from the chair in the outer office when he saw Tabitha emerge from her meeting with the President.
"How long have you been there?" She asked, reluctantly.
"I don't know," Toby looked down, nervously. "Whenever you went in there."
"You waited for me?" She asked, almost shocked.
"I wanted to make sure you were going to be okay," Toby looked up and smiled.
"I talked with him."
"And?"
"He decided to call off the party," Tabitha smiled weakly. "Listen, I'm sorry that I had to."
"Don't apologize," Toby stopped her. "What you did was something you thought was right. And there's nothing wrong with that," Toby smiled. "Do you need a ride home?"
"I think I'm okay," Tabitha nodded.
"What if I said I wanted to drive you back to the hotel?" Toby asked, nervously.
"I would think you were hitting on me," Tabitha smirked.
"Maybe," Toby looked down and paced. "I'm out of practice here."
"I would love a ride," Tabitha nodded and started walking out.
"Good," Toby whispered and followed her. "I was trying to write something for you," Toby mentioned, as he caught up to her.
"What?" She asked.
"I was trying to write a poem," Toby mumbled.
"And?" She smiled.
"Well, it didn't rhyme for one, and it didn't make much sense," Toby moaned.
"What were you trying to write about?" She asked.
"I was trying to come up with a poem that would help me get you to go out with me," Toby grinned as she turned around.
"You didn't feel you could just ask?" She smirked.
"Like I said, I'm out of practice," Toby looked down again, pacing.
"Try it," She smiled
"I've experienced a lot of pain and heartache in my life, but for the first time, I feel ensorcelled by someone who seems to understand me. I don't know if this will make much sense, but if I ask for one night with you, could we just say yes and see," Toby blurted out, almost embarrassed. "I wrote that in one minute and I'm not a poet."
"That was beautiful Toby," Tabitha smiled. "I think you just won me over."
"So, does this mean you will have dinner with me?"
"Yes," She nodded. "Or you could take me home and we can wake up in the morning to have some breakfast," She said, shyly. Kissing him lightly on the lips.
"I'll get the car," Toby smiled and ran out, causing Tabitha to start laughing.
