After nightmare hospital, so Connie's mom knows about the gems.
Oneshot, Pearl's POV
"Whaaaat?! You can't come over?! Why nooot?! Steven cried. He was on the phone with Connie. "Oh, okay then, I guess. Wait! I'll come over and visit you! Aww come on Connie, Please?" A pause. "Yay! Oh, No I won't." He closed the phone.
"Okay, Connie's sick, so I'm gonna go visit her! Which one of you guys will come with me? Connie says her mom won't let me come unless one of you guys comes too."
I looked over at Garnet and Amethyst. "We have a mission P" said Amethyst. "So looks like it's up to you."
I sighed. "Alright Steven. I'll come. But no food."
"Okay!" He said, smiling brightly
"What was the "No I won't for?" I asked.
"Oh, she said "Don't blame me if you get sick too""
I was a bit worried, but I couldn't let Steven go without seeing Connie. I got in Gregs van, (he let us borrow it, he was too busy to come too) Steven climbed in the backseat, and I drove him to Connie's house.
"Hi Ms. Maheshwarren" said Steven
"Hello Steven, I presume you have permission to be here?" She asked. I felt it was my time to step in.
"Yes, hi, I'm one of the gems, I've given him permission." I said.
"Oh, yes hello, um-" She struggled to find a name.
"Pearl." I supplied
"Yes, Pearl. Steven, Connie's room is upstairs, second to the left. Pearl, maybe you should go too. You're her sword trainer right? she asked
"Y-yes, if you say so."I said, surprised.
"Make sure they don't try anything." She whispered to me. I almost laughed at that. Steven charged up the stairs to Connie's room. I followed slowly. He opened the door, and we stepped inside.
Connie was sitting in her bed. She didn't really look that different, just very tired.
"Hi Steven," She said in a strained voice "Hi Pearl."
"Connie!" Said Steven excitedly. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," She said. Steven sat down next to her. I stood awkwardly in the doorway, not really knowing what to do.
"Hey, Steven, could you do me a huge favor and ask mom to send some snacks up?" She asked Steven
"Oh, yeah, no problem!" Steven said, and ran off. Connie looked at me.
"You can come in you know." She said, smiling. "I guess I'll be missing tommorow's sword training." She laughed
"Yeah." I said. I sat down on a stool next to the door. "Um, are, are you alright Connie?"
"Yes, I'm fine, I already said that." She paused. "Pearl, you know, aside from Steven, you're my favorite crystal gem."
"Oh, thanks." I blushed. We sat in awkward silence for a minute.
"When Steven comes back, let's play a board game." She suggeste
"Okay. I agreed." And we did. Fortunately, it wasn't that insane kitchen game. It was called Machi Koro, and it was actually pretty fun. Steven and I both went home smiling.
