Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or the school system. If I did, I would have a lot of fun.
The Future
Kagome was once again, trying to catch up on her school work.
"Ka-"
"I have no time for you, I need to finish this." Kagome didn't even look at Inuyasha, who'd just then come to her window.
Inuyasha stared for a moment, then spoke dryly. "Now that just plain hurts."
"Kagome, why do you stress over this so much? Over stressing is just not good for a person." Inuyasha said.
"Because I need to do this to insure my future." Kagome said, finally done.
Inuyasha was heart-broken. "So...You don't want to stay in my time? I-I mean, if things don't work out here, you could always stay with me. I know I can't provide you with a hut or anything els that others could, but..." Inuyasha paused. He didn't know what he could say next. "I'd like for you to stay with me."
"I...I didn't think that you'd want me around." Kagome said. "You're not exactly Prince Charming, and you always keep an emotional distance from me. That's...because of Kikyo, isn't it?" Kagome asked, saddened.
"Kagome, I can't lie to you. It is. I know now that it was all my fault for falling in love with Kikyo in the first place. I can't say I've never thought of loving you, but I don't want to. I don't want to fall into that trap again." Inuyasha explained, his ears flattening.
"Is that what love is to you? A trap?" Kagome half yelled, sitting on the bed. At the same time, there was one line in particular that she couldn't let go of. 'I can't say I've never thought of loving you'
"Don't be so naive. It is just a trap. I was emotionally scared and the object of my affection died. I want to be able to love you, Kagome. But I can't. I'll never risk your life just for my happinesses." The two were both in shock at this. He wasn't usually this selfless.
They remained silent for a minute.
Kagome broke the silence. "But, you get so jealous..."
"It's because part of me wants to at least try to keep other males away from you. Kagome, it's not that I don't want you to be happy, but I don't want to risk you falling in love with someone els. If Koga, or that guy from this time, or anyone falls in love with you, I could just kill 'em. But I do know that if you fall in love with someone els, there's not a thing I could do." Inuyasha explained, seating himself next to Kagome on the bed.
They both blushed at realizing they were on a bed together, but didn't make anything of it.
"If..." Kagome started. "If Kikyo were still alive, you'd live with her. I'm just a second chose."
"How could you think that?" Inuyasha asked, putting his arm around her.
"As soon as someone mentions her name, you run off and leave me alone. The last time that happened I almost didn't come back."
"What changed your mind?"
"Earlier that day, when I realized how much I love you."
Inuyasha's heart almost stopped beating.
"Then, will you...I-I mean...Will you m-ma-?" Inuyasha tried to chock out. .
Kagome wasn't an idiot. She'd seen enough romance movies and novels to know what he wanted to say. She let her body fall into his arms. "Yes, Inuyasha. Of course I'll marry you."
Inuyasha embraced her. Over one year, Kagome had gone from some idiot human girl, to his ally, to his friend, then to the woman he loved.
And she would soon be his wife.
