"Angelina finished installing the shower curtain, shaking her head all the while. She still couldn't believe how the last one ripped. 'Either no more shower sex or we find a charm to make the curtain stronger,' she thought resolutely. They couldn't afford to keep replacing shower curtains because they got a little too enthusiastic with their activities.
She went to the living area, grabbed the bag of cranberries that were left opened, and sat down with her favorite berry and a magazine. She tried to focus on the magazine as she periodically popped cranberries in her mouth, savoring the taste of something she had trouble going without.
When George Flooed in, she put the cranberries on the table in front of her.
She noticed the look on his face and the large bag that was slung over his shoulder, and she rolled her eyes. The bag was partially opened and she saw it bulge, as if something was moving inside it. "Tell me the truth," she imperiously commanded.
George smiled, but it did relieve the guilty expression on his face. "Truth?"
Angelina nodded, stood up, and crossed her arms over her chest. She tapped her foot impatiently. "What's in the bag?"
George grinned sheepishly and opened it completely. And out came...
"A puppy?" she asked with wide eyes.
George happily nodded. "A new puppy. Isn't he cute?"
"Where did you get him?"
"At the pet store," he answered with a 'duh' expression on his face. "I thought we could name him Fred Jr."
"George, sweetie, I know you're grieving, but a puppy can't take the place of Fred."
George looked at the puppy that was cuddled against his chest. "I know that, and this is not just because I miss Fred." He looked up with shining eyes. "Fred always wanted a dog, but we never made it happen. I wanted to get a dog in Fred's honor, and this little guy needed a good home." He scratched the pup's head absentmindedly.
Angelina's eyes softened. "George –"
"I know I should have talked to you first, Angie. I'm not even sure how you feel about dogs. In my heart, it feels like this little guy belongs with us, though. I can't explain it, but I know Fred Jr. is supposed to be with us."
Angelina sighed. "Okay. I'm not sure if this will work out, but we can give it a try. Are you sure you want to name him Fred Jr., though? It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue."
George pouted at Angelina's putdown.
Angelina chuckled. "How about Freddie? I think it sounds much better."
George's eyes lit up and he nodded vigorously. Welcome home, Freddie," he murmured against the pup's fur.
Angelia watched the two of them, and in her heart, she felt she made the right decision to give in. It seemed like Freddie needed George and George definitely needed Freddie. It was a match made in heaven.
