WARNING: SEASON 4 SPOILERS AHEAD!
Lucifer is pretty certain his dad is determined to manipulate him at every opportunity. But I'm sure God loves him, just as he does all of us, and wants his son to be happy. Which inspired me to write this little piece.
I don't own Lucifer.
God knew that at some point or another, each of his children would become lost or unsatisfied with their role in life. It was painfully clear Lucifer would be the first. The Lightbringer was the child with whom He had had the most conflict, who was always the least happy with his situation. He was going to be the first to receive his gift.
He was planning one special gift for each of His children for when the time came. A gift to remind them of all that was good and worth fighting for.
Lucifer's would be a mate. It would have to be a human, not a celestial, and God was well aware of the effect Lucifer had on human women. This one would have to be special.
Sensing the time was growing near, He sent Amenadiel to Earth, to bless a childless couple. Nine months later, the miracle child was born. A little girl, who He knew would one day grow up to be an amazing woman, capable of standing toe to toe with the Devil, worthy of the Lightbringer.
Amenadiel followed His orders gladly. He knew he would. Amenadiel would be unswervingly loyal, until the day he believed he had failed in his duty and no longer thought himself worthy of being an angel. This would be brought on by Lucifer, no doubt. Amenadiel was the best big brother, constantly looking out for the wayward son, feeling responsible for all Lucifer's actions. When that happened, Amenadiel would need his own gift. God didn't know what exactly it would be yet, but He knew it must give His first-born purpose again. Amenadiel must always have a duty.
Never allowed to interfere, God could only watch from afar how Lucifer's relationship with Chloe Decker progressed. He was happy; His son was clearly devoted to the detective, just as Chloe was to him. Despite all the problems that came between them, they would always come back to each other.
Meanwhile, though, Amenadiel had begun his spiral. God ached to ease His son's pain, but He knew Amenadiel must work through his issues on his own. But it was becoming glaringly obvious Amenadiel would need his gift soon; the thing that would drive him for the rest of his considerable life.
When the human, Linda Martin, became privy to the secrets of the celestials, God suddenly knew what Amenadiel's gift would be. Not a mate like Lucifer; the two angels were driven by completely different feelings of devotion.
God had known, when He first started creating humanity, the effect an angel such as Lucifer could have on them, and had taken due precautions. If He hadn't, the world would surely be populated by hundreds, perhaps thousands of half-celestial beings.
But this was a gift, and just as He had created Chloe, God allowed himself to bend the rules once more. Amenadiel was to have a son.
Unfortunately, the actions of Eve and William Kinley forced Lucifer back to Hell, and God could only sigh with pity and frustration. Lucifer and Chloe had spent so long working out their issues that they had only had time to say a quick 'I love you'. Sometimes His son could be incredibly slow on the uptake. But no matter. Amenadiel's son – Charlie – was safe, and His first-born could enjoy his new family, restored once again to his path of duty and justice. Lucifer had returned to his throne, of his own free will, and God would ensure his gift would be returned to him.
When the time came.
