Grotesque shadows peer through windows with too-long necks before scuttling away into the blanket of darkness that coats every street. Cats prowl across banisters with all-knowing eyes that twinkle in the the night like stars in the endless abyss of the sky. The townhouses that dot the streets like an ornament on a decrepit, rotting tree walk past Lorina, or maybe she walks past them. Briefly a white poster adorned with a familiar face hooked onto her gaze, but she quickly pushed it out of her mind before the hook could snare any more tears and tug them from her eyes.

She wrapped her coat tighter before the sharp blade of wind could cut through the last remaining strings of liquid courage that had permeated in her stomach. Ducking under the under the yellow crime scene tape that laced the gruesome scene up with a pretty bow. She crept forward, afraid that she would shatter the spectral silence that had drenched the scene. Begrudgingly she knelt down to examine the corpse, the man's face was stretched into a grotesque grin, in his hand was a broken teacup and blood shone behind his head like a halo in the meager light of the moon. Still wet. Dull blue eyes ringed with puffy red searched the scene, a tabby cat sprawled along the street, jumping onto the wall then turning to stare at Lorina with knowing pools of gold split suddenly through the middle by a black streak. As Lorina stared at the cat a black silhouette stalked across the wall coming closer to where the pale girl knelt, extending a perfectly manicured hand adorned with sharp nails filed to a point. The hand hovered above her shoulder before dropping down to tap her shoulder. Lorina reached for her pistol, cocking it she turned to face the wood be assalinet… only to be stared down by emerald green eyes, glittering like the gem of their namesake. "Chester!" her high pitched squeal cut through the air, piercing and undisputed. She glared at him, "what on earth are you doing here?, you don't have the necessary jurisdiction! This is a crime scene!".

Chester grinned at her, "well one of the suspects happens to be my client, so I figured it might benefit me to look at the crime scene." She sighed, wishing that Chester, would just take his perfect suit and go to hell She sighed

"just don't touch anything, it's a crime scene, and I don't want you to get your slimy paws all over it". He is grin widened, as if intent on splitting his face in two halves

"I'll be careful" he snickered, before turning on his heel and sauntering away, his dress shoes clicking on the uneven stone of the cobbled alleyway.

Lorina looked back at the corpse, a light pattering of noise sounded behind her. Slowly turning her eyes landed on a pale child in a white velvet waistcoat that was stained ever so slightly with a crimson stain. She squinted at his running figure "Hey! Stop" she yelled at the rapidly receding figure. She launched herself off her feet, breaking into a fast pursuit. The child started, peering back at her with large, red eyes. Lorina stumbled unnerved by their color, then broke into a panicked run. She charged after that silver child, who deftly noticed the blond girl charging toward him. She began to gain on him, only to stop in shock as the child dropped down into the open sewer, she ran forward to look in, no end was in sight. Lorina debated with herself… and jumped in.
