Ash quickened his pace as he neared the quaint little home. He had been walking from the next town over in order to eliminate the need to wait for someone to accompany him there. The town was small enough that it didn't take him long to find the right house. He had missed his beloved greatly while he was away. It was almost too much to bear sometimes!

Stopping just before the door, Ash paused to catch his breath. He had been away from too long and the prospect of seeing his best friend in the world again frightened him. Pausing, he reflected back from before he left. There had been great sadness on both parts, but he knew he had to leave and make things right again. It was the only way and they both knew it. However, it didn't lessen the mournful feelings they both felt upon his departure. Having been gone travelling for the better part of the year, Ash simply prayed that his little darling wouldn't have moved on and found someone else. Steeling himself, he knocked on the door.

It seemed like forever until the door of the home was opened by a middle aged woman. Ash had just begun to think that no one was home - that they had all forgotten and had left without telling him - when the door creaked open. The lady looked upon him in surprise; she hadn't expected it to be him.

As soon as Ash had a clear view of the inside of the house, he stretched so he could see around the lady in the doorway. Sighting the object of his affections, the young teenager barrelled past the lady, knocking her aside. Swinging his precious companion around in his arms, he couldn't stop grinning! As he placed his friend down on the ground once more, he couldn't contain his joy.

"Pikachu!" he yelled out loudly.

"I promise I'll always choose you!

A/N: I'm sorry for anyone who hated this... I happened to realize this afternoon that both Pokemon and the Night World Series have a character named Ash who could be returning home from travelling abroad, and couldn't resist writing and posting this. Please let me know what you think! :D

Happy Writing!
