AN: This was a little request from Supernova, so I hope you all like it. And BeastlyBat this is for you too since you love Sparky just as much as I do. It's a little short but also pretty sweet. Too bad Poof and Sparky didn't get a whole lot of screen time when they were still around. Oh well, enjoy! It maybe my last FOP story at lest until some time in the new year. So thank you guys so much for all the love you've given me and for liking my work. I really appreciate it, and I'll see ya all later.
Disclaimer: I don't own The Fairly OddParents.
Poof awoken in the middle of the night unable to fall back asleep. The clock ticking next to his bedside read two thirty AM, which told him that it was pretty early in the morning. His first thought was about turning the television on and flick through the channels to find something fun to watch.
Perhaps something educational like a documentary or something targeted towards younger children. Or he could just pull out his MP3 player and listen to his music he had on there. But of course he was well aware that if Wanda heard or caught him up at this hour he wouldn't hear the end of it.
He was still a growing boy and needed his sleep she would tell him. Poof, you need it in order to function properly, young man. You shouldn't be up so late.
With a sign, the little fairy picked up the alarm clock to stare at the time before setting it back on the table. Finally, he decided to get up and go into the kitchen for a glass of warm milk. A remedy that his mother always said would help cure her own insomnia whenever she had trouble getting to sleep at bedtime. That and a good book.
He quietly tiptoed to the kitchen inside the fairy castle and pried open the refrigerator door. He then withdrew the milk carton from inside and gently placed it onto the countertop. While he had thought about just taking a tiny sip from the carton, he decided against it and poured the fresh liquid out in a glass he found near the sink.
Mom wouldn't want me drinking out of the carton, anyway. She even tells dad or Timmy not to do it. He thought as he placed it back onto the fridge rack and went back to his bedroom to drink his milk.
When the glass was now empty, Poof wiped away his milk mustache from his lip and crawled back underneath the covers in hopes that sleep would slowly creep up on him. But just like before he couldn't seem to get back to sleep no matter how hard he'd tried. Well, so much for that idea.
Just when he was about to turn around and face the wall of his bedroom he heard a sudden and strange noise emerge from within the darkness that engulfed him. The little fairy quickly grabbed the lamp cord and switched it on. He looked around the now lit room in search of the sound.
He even peeked underneath his bed making sure that there were no monsters in sight, which there wasn't any before he pulled out his magical rattle from his nightstand drawer and went to investigate, checking all the rooms as he passed by them one by one.
Well, if it's not coming from in the castle, then it must be coming from Timmy's room. Maybe Timmy and Sparky are in trouble! Did someone break into the Turner house in the middle of the night without our knowledge? Don't his parents ever bother to lock their doors?
All these questions whirled around in his head before he then shook his rattle and appeared into his god brothers own bedroom. There he saw Sparky tossing and turning on Timmy Turner's bed with a whimper.
"Oh, no. It looks like poor Sparky is having a bad dream." He whispered, not wanting to disturb Timmy's peaceful slumber while feeling bad for his lovable canine friend.
After he thought about what to do for a few seconds he poofed back into his bedroom and grabbed a teddy bear off his bookshelf before he reappeared next to Sparky's side and gently placed the blue bear in the sleeping fairy dog's shaky paws.
When he was calm and much happier, Poof raised his rattle and was about to poof himself back into the fishbowl when he heard someone speak to him.
"Hey, Poof. What are you doing up? You couldn't get any sleep because Cosmo's sleep talking about Philip again?" Sparky asked with a smirk as he and Poof made eye contact with each other.
"Ugh, no. Dad's really got issues with that dumb nickel of his. Seriously, He acts like it's the end of the world if he loses her." Poof huffed as he thought about his dimwitted father and the coin that he was unfortunately so obsessed with.
"I don't even know how mom manages to get any sleep every night with all that racket. Or why they would have a lion in the castle. It's not like anyone's gonna break in since the door is voice automatic. Who would even want to go in our home besides Timmy anyway?"
Sparky chuckled a little at Poof's annoyance. "Must be a sound sleeper, or maybe she just wears ear muffs so she can't hear it. As for the lion thing, maybe it's to keep Mr. Crocker out if he just so happens to somehow sneak in there. The guy's pretty crazy about fairies."
"True. Anyway, I heard you whimper in your sleep when I came out here to check on you and Timmy, so I thought that I'd give you my stuffed animal to help calm you down a little bit."
"Oh, so that explains why I woke up with a little bear in my arms. I thought I might of been sleep walking and stole it from Timmy's Dad's stuffed animal collection, or worse from an actual bear. Thanks, Poof."
Poof giggled at Sparky's silliness. "You're welcome. Yeah, he's a total man child. But at lest he doesn't sleep with pocket change. So are you okay, Sparky?"
"Yeah, I'm okay. I dreamt that all of Timmy's enemies had teamed up and tried to kill him, and they trapped us all inside this machine that we couldn't escape from. It was draining our magic, so I couldn't break out and fight them. The nightmare just scared me a little that's all."
Poof reached over and gently scratched behind one of Sparky's ears while he sat up on his owners bed and nuzzled Poof's teddy bear with his nose.
"It's okay, Sparky. It was only a bad dream. We all have them every now and then. And while they may seem real to us they're really just apart of our imagination. It won't come true because Timmy and my parents won't let it, so there's nothing to worry about."
Sparky nodded and adjusted his nightcap on his head.
"Wow Poof, how did you become so wise?"
"Hey, I may share my dad's love of red meat and Timmy's love of violence, but I also have my mom's intelligence along with her love of chocolate."
"You're not wrong there. Wanda once informed me that you gobbled up all the brownies for the baking competition against you guys and the Anti-fairies." Sparky told Poof while he ran a paw over his blue pajama top to smooth out the wrinkles.
"If I was in your shoes I'm sure I would of done the same thing, only they would be dog biscuits instead. You know, since chocolate makes me sick."
"Heh, yeah. Guess I'm a chocoholic too. Hey, I got something else that might help you get some more sleep. Wait right here."
Poof then disappeared into the castle in a puff of purple smoke. When he returned he pulled out a pacifier, made it a little bigger, then flew over and insert it in the dog's mouth who gave him a look of confusion in return as he began sucking on it.
"I know that you're not a puppy anymore, but maybe my old pacifier will help you sleep better too. It helped me when I was younger and had bad dreams. Along with a bottle and mom's lullaby. It's very soothing. Go on, give it a try."
Sparky slowly took the baby object out of his mouth before placing it back in and laid down on the bed with the teddy bear in his paws.
"Wow, you're right. This is pretty soothing. In fact, I feel like a pup again. Thanks for the help, Poof. Good night."
Poof smiled then popped another into his own mouth before he went back to bed.
"No problem, Sparky. Sweet dreams. And if Timmy asks, just tell him that it reminds you of your puppy days. Also don't tell my parents that I still have a pacifier since they believe that I've given it up."
Sparky gave his little friend a wink and chuckled again. At lest now they would both be able to sleep through the whole night without any problems.
"No worries, Poof. Your secrets safe with me."
