AN: In this fic, I decided to be lazy and simply refer to Yami as Yami. And to be frank, I really don't care if that that bothers you. This is just a short little thing that I had random inspiration for at four in the morning one day.

Yami's hand twitched as he reached out to draw a card from the deck in front of him. The card he drew next would severely impact his chances of winning. This card was crucial. Both the game and his pride depended on it.

Yami's eyes slid shut as he allowed his fingers to caress the worn-down edge of the card at the very top of the deck, gently sliding it from its place and bringing it close to his chest in a broad, sweeping motion. Opening his eyes just a crack, he took in the text and images printed on the card's front.

Yami inwardly cursed. This card would not help him. He added it to his hand, trying not let his disappointment show.

Kaiba was too perceptive to be fooled. He let out a rare burst of laughter and proceeded to explain exactly why Yami was the inferior player, and, by extension, the inferior human being. Yami sighed irritably. Everything Kaiba was spouting was pure nonsense as usual. But Kaiba was the most worthy opponent Yami had ever had the pleasure to face, so somehow he forced himself to put up with it, day after day, game after game.

And then it was Kaiba's turn– Yami's last chance. The strategy Kaiba chose to employ in this single turn would decide the outcome of the entire game, and both of them knew it. Kaiba turned his eyes forward, his signature glare boring into Yami's skull.

Yami stared Kaiba down, glaring in the most intimidating way he knew how, inviting him to read his moves while simultaneously driving him away, attempting to throw him off. After all, if you couldn't read your opponent in a game such as this, you were already the loser. Kaiba stared back, glaring haughtily, glancing back to his hand for a brief moment and then returning his gaze to his enemy. After what seemed like an eternity, he declared his move.

Yami's lips twitched and broke into a satisfied grin. With Kaiba's words, he knew that he had a chance after all. Smirking, he opened his mouth and let out a chuckle of victory as he uttered the dreaded phrase...

"Go fish."
