"Jake," Alan said, "Just do your homework"

"I CAN'T," Jake finally exploded angrily, "I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANY OF IT. THE B'S LOOK LIKE D'S THE D'S LOOK LIKE P'S AND THE P'S LOOK LIKE Q'S. EVEN THE NUMBERS ARE ALL JUMBLED UP"

"What? Jake that's wonderful," Alan said excitedly.

Jake stared at his father like he had lost his mind.

"Dad how is that wonderful. It means that I'm stupid"

"No," Alan said, "it means that you have a learning disability called Dyslexia. There are ways to work around that."

"There are," Jake asked sniffling as he looked up.

"Of course there is," Alan said, "tomorrow morning I'm going to call and arrange for you to be tested to find out what type of Dyslexia you have and then we'll work through it"

"I'm so glad mom gave me to you," Jake said, "Even though it means she didn't love me anymore"

A couple of months ago almost 12 year old Jake had been diagnosed with EESS which meant that Judith would have to change her parenting style. She didn't think she was ready to do that so instead she gave Alan full custody of Jake. She decided that he would be a better parent then her.

Alan put his hand on his son's shoulder.

"Jake do you remember when you were 8 and you got into that accident?"

"Yeah cause I was-"

"Do not say stupid," Alan commanded, "anyway remember how because of the accident you couldn't take care of Mittens anymore?"

Mittens was his dog.

"Yes. I gave her to cousins Robin and Jennifer because I was incapable of taking care of him"

"Exactly and what was your motivation… your reason for doing that?"

"I love her and she needed more attention then I was capable of giving her at the time"

"Right," Alan replied, "and it's the same way with your mother"

Jake looked confused.

"Your mother loves you," he explained, "and because she knows that you need more then she can possibly give and she knows that I am capable of giving you what you need she decided that you're better off with me just like Mittens was better off with Robin and Jennifer."

"I… you know something dad that actually makes sense"

"Jake," Alan said, "you know I love you right?"

"And I love you too dad," Jake said hugging him.

"Hey I know what," Alan said, "let's make a quick stop at the office and then go to Fun Zone"

Jake LOVED Fun Zone. It was a restaurant/amusement park combined. What could be better?

"Can't we go to Fun Zone first," Jake asked

Alan normally would be positive but stay firm because that's what the therapist said Jake needed but he figured there was no harm in giving him a break once in awhile.

"Okay," Alan said, "but we DO HAVE TO stop off at the office today"

"Could we use the fun ride," Jake asked.

One of Alan's machines went back and forth like a ride and Jake loved it.

"I think so," Alan said smiling as they went out.
