After Episode 5, Small Worlds
Chapter One: Coming to Terms
Jack held Estelle for the last time. He cradled her, angry at himself for not being able to protect her.
Owen walked away. Gwen remained behind.
"It was you, and not your father," she said in a low voice, "the same Jack. I'm so sorry, Jack. If there is anything I can do—." Her voice trailed off, and she walked away, leaving him to grieve in peace.
Flashback:
"Maybe some are evil, and some are good," Gwen suggested.
"That's what Jack's father used to say," Estelle said.
Later on, Gwen saw Jack's picture, but he refused to say it was him, only his father.
She pressed the issue further with Estelle. Nothing Estelle said surprised Gwen until she added, "I'm glad to see Jack so happy. Happy to know he's finally found someone like you."
"Sorry?" Gwen asked.
"He deserves someone that will make him happy. I'm glad to know he has you."
"You must be mistaken. We're not –."
"A woman always knows," Estelle said with a smile.
Gwen smiled back, feeling that was the only thing she could do.
Jack joined them, and soon Jack and Gwen left, but not before Estelle said, "Take care of her."
When they were away from the house, Gwen apologized.
"What do you mean?" Jack asked.
"She thought we were together. I tried to correct her, but she didn't believe me. Sorry."
"It's okay," Jack said, "Estelle's always been extraordinary."
Gwen raised an eyebrow.
"It's my fault really. The way I act around you—of course she thought—."
"I'm sure you act that way around everybody."
