It happened too fast, all of it was going over her head. So much had happened that Lucy wasn't sure how to even process what was going on or what exactly Marde was saying to Natsu, or why Natsu looked like that.
It had to be a lie.
It was the only thing she could repeat to herself as he came closer to her, his hand (claw?) touching her hand to lift her up and pull her against him. His body felt warm, almost burning that she wanted to pull away. Her own skin started to heat up while she felt his claws dig through her hair, how sharp his nails where and the strange texture of his skin against her cheek.
Everything blurred before her as she watched two huge wings twitch on his back, how Natsu pressed himself against her, rubbing his cheek against hers as he finally spoke to her. Voice deep and familiar and so much like Natsu but not at the same time, there was nothing familiar about him now. Her fingers twitched into his jacket clinging to it as she swallowed, feeling his heartbeat against hers and he took in a breath saying words she never expected:
"I'm sorry, Lucy."
And she was on her knees, pain searing through her as she watched in shock of him walking away from her. There was no laughter, no hug and cheer that they did it, or asking if she was okay.
Only an apology she didn't understand from a man that could do no wrong in her eyes.
It had to be a lie.
