Breaking the Cycle
It was all routine by now. He would be doing something - anything - completely innocent. Rikuou would get that slow grin across his face and there would be this split second of pause as he considered if he really wanted to go for it. Then he would say it. He always did. Something utterly untrue. Twisting a look, or a word, or a gesture into something it wasn't. Making light of his worries. Making fun of his naivety. Turning everything into a joke. Making everything… sexual.
Leaning. Whispering. Not quite touching.
Kazahaya was tired of the routine. He had only been trying to apologize.
"Stop. Can't you be serious?"
The reprieve from yelling was unexpected – that wasn't how this was supposed to go. And though Rikuou knew what he wanted to say next, there were two ways to go about it. If Kazahaya could surprise him, then maybe he could surprise Kazahaya. He let his smirk drop but did not move away.
"Kazahaya? Is it that you want me to stop or is it that you want me to be serious?" An honest question.
Kazahaya thought he had an answer. He was afraid of the answer.
With that realization, there was only one thing he could do. There is safety in routine. His jaw drops in preparation for the rant to come. He will have to wait for the next opportunity to break the cycle.

Author's Note: It seems to me like this one is lacking something but I'm not sure what. Still, it's been finished for ages and I figured I should go ahead and post it as-is. You never know what other people will like unless you give them the opportunity to read it. So, thanks for reading. I hope you managed to get some enjoyment out of it.
