AN: My first death note story! Hope you all enjoy and happy Halloween!

The first time in a very long time L woke up in a warm bed with a oversized blanket over him. While stretching his limps and letting out a long yawn, L realized what today was. His birthday. The great detective's birthday fell on the day of Halloween, the international holiday of dressing up in wild costumes and receiving candy in bag fills. L never did celebrate his birthday or Halloween growing up in the Wammy House, despite Watari's best attempts. L rose out of his bed and slowly walked out of his mostly unused bedroom of the floor he stayed in with the rest of the Task Force. L walked into the living room of his floor to find Watari pouring two cups of honey tea with a plate of small candies on the side.

"Happy birthday, Ryuuzaki." The old man said with a wrinkly smile. L attempted a grin and proceeded to sit down with Watari.

"Good morning, Watari. I would hate to upset you but once again, no celebrations this year." L said as he sipped on the honey flavored tea and sucked on some small candies. Watari kept on a smile and moved towards the door.

"I know but that didn't stop me from getting you a gift." The caretaker said as he began to exit out of the room. L watched with in confused glare and looked down at the empty plate across from L.

"Aren't you going to stay? Your tea with get cold." L said with misunderstanding in his monotone voice.

"Oh it's not for me, Ryuuzaki." Watari said as he closed the door, leaving a befuddled L alone in the room. L stared at the door, trying to find the answer to why his caretaker left out of nowhere. The detective brushed it off and began to eat the breakfast Watari made for him.

While in the middle of biting down on a slice of toast, L heard loud knocking on his door. He let out a long sigh and removed himself from the chair. L peeked through the small window of the door and saw nothing but dark chestnut hair. He couldn't tell who it was but decided to take his chances. L opened the door to see a face he wasn't seen in years.

A woman stood before L, presumably in her 20's. The woman had long coffee colored hair flowing down her shoulders that framed a heart shaped sun kissed face. Hopeful hazel eyes peered at L with a nervous smile. The female was shorter than L and met up to his board chest, making her angle her head up to see the detective. L stared down at the woman with a shocked and surprised gaze that confused the lady in front of him.

"…Ophelia Bonebright. It's been far to long." L said, making the thin woman in front of him smile widely.

"You remember me! It has been to long, Lawliet." Ophelia said, entering in L's room. L closed the door after her and watched as Ophelia spin around in the living room, marveling at the beauty of the area.

"Last time I saw you was-"

"When you left the Wammy house." Ophelia said with a mournful expression, cutting L off. The remarkable detective watched his old friend's look turned from joyful to heartbreaking within a second. He walked up to her and awkwardly placed a hand on her back, stroking her up and down. Ophelia put on a forced smile and wrapped her arms around L. L didn't know how to react at first and slowly wrapped his arms around her in return.

"Happy Birthday, L" Ophelia whispered against L's chest. The detective lightly smiled and gave a little squeeze. She pulled away and sat herself down at the table Watari had prepared. L sat down across from her, smiling at Ophelia.

"I'm assuming you're my gift from Watari." L said with his infamous grin.

"Wow, what great detective skills you have." Ophelia said with a small laugh.

"Does that mean I get to unwrap yo-"

"Don't go there."

Ta-da! I might expand on this character later but for now, here's a Halloween one-shot for L's birthday.
