AN: I love Cyris, I do, but there is chemistry between the Knave and Alice so I wrote this. There will be more if you guys like it.
It was a happily ever after like the Knave had never seen before. Tears glistened in the couple's eyes as they ran into each others arms. In all honestly, it made him sick. Not sick because he didn't want a happy ending between Alice and her genie but sick because Alice was never his to lose and he shouldn't be feeling like he had just lost his entire world. He mentally kicked himself and put on his traditional cocky grin, hiding everything like he always did just as Alice ended her embrace with Cyrus.
She walked toward him, a satisfied smile on her ordinary face. "And you said it couldn't be done Knave."
'It was more of a wish," his sorrowful mind told him but he maintained his composure.
"Aye, and without me it wouldn't have been done. Now ye promised me a wish, one I feel I've earned."
He remembered holding the gem-like wishes in his greedy hand and thought of all the possibilities. Money, revenge, his freedom. That was before he'd adventured with Alice. Now it was clear to him why Cyrus had fallen for her. She was daring, brave, bold, charming and stunning in every way. She reminded him of Anastasia.
The Knave's smile wavered at the thought of Anastasia. He could still see her wavy brown hair cascading over her shoulders, accenting her yellow and peach dress. Her simple brown eyes were given light when the sun illuminated them. He could hear her giggle, her sweet words in his ear... But he could also hear her blood curdling scream as her head was removed from her body, the stench of blood filling his nostrils. This was his punishment for betraying the queen.. For helping Alice escape.. For loving another when the queen desired him.
"What happened to you Knave?" Alice had asked when she returned to hunt down her love, "What made you this way?" He had told her the answer didnt matter, but the loss of love had turned his heart to stone, a heart Alice had warmed with her radiance and then crushed again.
"Knave? Knave? Will?"
Will had been oblivious to Alice calling to him because he had been lost in thought but her last attempt had gotten through to him. She had her palm extended, the shimmery ruby resting in the center.
"Are you alright?"
He waved the question away and reached for his wish. When he did, she jerked her hand back.
"Will, this is the only wish I can spare. If I use them all, Cyrus and I won't be able to be together. Please use it wisely."
After he gave his word, she placed the gem in his hand and they ventured their separate ways.
It was now dusk and the gem still rested in his palm, unused. The rules of magic ran through his head.
"If I can't wish her to love me what do I have left to wish for? To forget her?" Will sighed in frustration, clenching his fist. "No, that's the cowards way out." The more he thought on it, the angrier he became.
"Why Cyris? His only redeeming feature is the fact that he's a genie! If only she didn't love him..."
That's when the idea struck him. The rules if magic said he couldn't wish for Alice to love him but they never said he couldn't wish for her to not love Cyris.
'But you gave her your word..' Part of his brain screamed but he ignored it.
"As the Queen would say, 'Rules are made to be broken,'. I wish that from this day forward, Alice didnt love Cyris."
The wish had been made. Now all the Knave had left to do was wait.
