story

sasuke stared at the couple, mind blanked out from the way the ring shined when it hit the sun uncertain ways. he couldn't look away, and he wondered how he had come to this. sitting here at his best friends engagement party watching as he gave, freely, his most enamouring smiles. like pieces of the sun handed to you on a silver platter. he glanced down at the glace of champaign in his hand he had yet to drink. he raised it up, and swirled it, watching as the light golden liquid moved around the glass, but at some pointed, he had looked through the glass, and had started watching the blond again. this had been a mistake, he couldn't do it.

placing the glass down, he stood up pushing in his chair and ignoring the looks he got from his brother. they were blank, very much like the man him self. every one thought it was simply his mask, that he had the greatest poker face in the world, but this wasthe man. all he had was his work, and his empty meaningless things. would that be him some day? was this his future? while Sasori spent his days and nights with Deidara, while Sakura got the fox, the happy ending. . .

he looked away, much later then the other raven, and turned away from the table, from the party that he should be able to join.

"Sasuke where are you going?" the boy, man, blinked, and looked up slightly to see the grinning blond that had thrown his world into the drain that it was now spinning down. he glared slightly, before smiling, something that was rarer than the coming Apocalypse. Naruto blinked in surprise. he, unknown to himself, was the only person who got to see his smile, but this time it felt weird. there was something wrong with it, a sadness in the curve of his lip, a finalization that made no sense.

"naruto. what are you doing over here?" he asked, looking around him for the false snippet of a girl that he had lost too. no, he didn't lose. he didn't even have a chance.

"coming to see my Friend since apparently i don't get a hi." he said, glaring at him playfully, before a confused pout covered his features. "or bye." as he glanced at the untouched table placement. "why are you over here?" he asked. he picked up the little paper name table that was above the untouched dinner plate. it had been a surprise when he had found himself sitting next to gaara.

the uchiha shrugged. "i have to go, you know work." he said, making to move passed the over man, but he was blocked.

"sasuke!' the other man said, his face sober. "are you sure your ok? you seen. . ." he was cut off as the other made a quick hand gesture.

"i'm fine. dobe." he said, using the pet name, but it was again with that weird smile. so sad. "bye." he said, leaving, and this time making it because of the distraction that had come. sakura had called over to the fox before he could make a move to stop the brunette. he looked over to her quickly, before looking back, watching those slim shoulders walk away. he blinked sudden tears away, frowning in confusion. he shook his head, strapping on a smile as his name was called again. he turned around, going back to his part, ignoring that little voice in his head, before wiping out the doubt completely.

what ever it was, it didn't matter, he had all he needed.
