AN: Hi. Don't hate me too much for this.

Disclaimer: I don't own and very soon you're all going to thank Anthony Horowitz for refusing me when I asked.

Hit

Wolf choked.

He couldn't breathe, he couldn't, couldn't… the searing pain in his chest made him feel like he was being eaten from the inside out and he had a sudden vision of a bird of death resting on his fallen body and gnawing at his insides.

He gasped, feebly trying to gain breath. "Snake…" he grinded out. Desperate even as he felt the pain dull and fire up again to find out what was going on.

He felt the warm hands of the little boy he had tried to save from the rapid gunfire gripping his shirt, poking his cheek timidly.

He opened his eyes. Wondering briefly when he had closed them. He was crumpled on his back, gazing up at the greying sky dully.

He turned his head, searching for the members of his unit. He shuddered helplessly, feeling anger build as he thought of it. He didn't like being helpless. Being helpless meant he wasn't doing his job. It meant… He cried out sharply, his voice gurgling wetly.

He didn't want to die. The kid that was holding onto his side was sobbing. He could hear the small gasps and felt the wet drops of his tears as he hugged his arm.

"Snake!" he rasped again as the blonde haired soldier ran into view. He saw his team's medic's green eyes widen as he realised what had happened. Panic flaring in his sea green depths just in time for Wolf to gag once again. Rolling onto his side as he heaved air and spit onto the dusty ground.

His eyes closed in pain and when he opened them, again he stared at the splattered pattern of his blood as it mingled with the dirt, turning it from brilliant red to a mottled brown as the first tinges of fear seized him.

He tried to get to his feet, franticly trying to deny the obvious. The pounding crunch of Snake's boots as he sprinted over to his unit leader sounded and then Snake himself appeared. Anxiousness evident on the man's face.

"Wolf! What happened?"

Wolf felt like glaring at the man. Was it not obvious? He felt like glaring but couldn't, for at that very moment he inhaled a huge breath and coughed horribly, blood flying everywhere as he gave up his attempt at getting to his feet.

"Snake…" he breathed, grey appearing at the edges of his vision. He couldn't see! He couldn't…

He was in agony! Oh, god it hurt!

"Snake!" he coughed again, wheezing now as he clutched his chest, clawing at the small, neat wound that was causing him so much pain. He felt another pair of hands, cool and gentle, checking his vital signs, a presence very close and then his name. "Daniel?" he reached out blindly, until he felt harsh cloth under his fingertips, he gripped Snake's sleeve tightly.

"Daniel?" the voice was nervous, scared.

His grip tightened.

The pain became intense, as if the wound was being poked and played with by a burning brand.

"Daniel?... Daniel?... Daniel!"

His hand went slack as the ache vanished.

AN: *Looks at the retreating backs of everyone who just read this* wait come back! Please! I'll make him come back alive! I'll give you jewels and cookies! Just come back!!!!!!

*stares after them morosely* oh… I've alienated everyone.

Sorry, I was in a mood and Wolf valiantly sacrificed his own life so all my other fics could stay light and fluff-full.

Anyway, who liked it?
