Bamf, took a while, but I got it done. And I know this is a very overused plot.. :l
The low humming sound began to get louder and the air around me started to quiver. I snuck a glance at the mass of gathered Romans, all armed and dangerous, and couldn't help thinking about how easily the giant airship would blast them all to smithereens. I swallowed nervously. I could feel my toga flapping against the strong wind buffeting us. I reached into my pocket instinctively and found the comforting, cool metal of Riptide. Looking to the sky, I watched as the massive trireme descended. Luckily, the cannons of the battleship weren't firing at us yet. Unluckily, the giant ship had set a landing course straight for us. The Romans yelled and scattered as the airship skidded through the dirt and rumbled toward them. I jumped out of the way just as the ship smashed through a tree two meters from me and came to a stop.
Dust billowed and a few coughs rippled through the scattered Roman ranks. I drew Riptide; it magically expanded and became a glowing blade of celestial bronze. Steam hissed as the door to the airship slid open. Swatting away the dust, I saw four figures at the door. I could make out two girls and two guys.
Immediately, I wondered whether Annabeth was one of those two girls. My heart slammed against my chest as they began making their way towards us. I glanced to my right, where Reyna stood, and saw her steely eyes narrow in suspicion. Quiet clinking sounds of armor moving came from the Romans who stood ready, weapons brandished. As the figures moved closer, I spotted a blonde girl first. My heart leapt to my mouth. Annabeth. That was when my legs began to move of their own accord.
"Percy, what are you doing?" I heard Reyna hiss at me, but I ignored her. All I knew right then was that that blonde girl was Annabeth. My legs pumped faster and faster, until they were racing. Then I had her in my arms and everything felt right again.
Her arms tightened around my waist as I pulled her tight against me. She smelled like lemon soap, like she always did. It was familiar and I loved it. Her blonde hair tickled my chin as I pressed my cheek to her head.
"Oh gods, Percy. I've missed you so much." Annabeth whispered, her voice ragged with emotion.
"I missed you too." I whispered back. In the background I heard hushed murmurs as we embraced, but none of that mattered now. I had my best friend back. I pulled back a little and rested my forehead against hers, looking into her wet gray eyes. Then she hit me hard. Ouch?
"Never, ever disappear like that ever again." She whispered fiercely, a tear rolling down her flushed cheeks.
"Never." I agreed with a smile just before my lips touched hers.
Apologies for the shortness - wanted to capture the moment. Reviews please, criticism is always welcome.
