If life is a voyage, perhaps friendship is what happens when two kindred souls decide to journey together for a time. Just a short poem inspired by the episode, "Do Not Go Gentle." (My apologies to Mr. Dylan Thomas for any shortcomings in my abilities and for considering myself in even the slightest way a "fellow poet.")
I do not own the characters of Hardcastle and McCormick. I don't own Mr. Thomas. I don't even own a yacht. I just write poems for pleasure and not for profit.
The Farthest Shore
By e-pony
Sailing on the seas of change
Has brought us both this far –
Where the lands are strange
And the winds of truth
Have revealed all we are –
With only the light of friendship
To serve as our guiding star.
Hoisting up the boat's mainsail
And holding firm the wheel,
Through storm and gale,
We've pursued our course,
Seldom saying what we feel –
With just the ballast of our trust
To maintain an even keel.

Life's voyage will be hollow
Without you by my side,
For I would follow
To the earth's far edge
My captain and my guide.
You navigate by point of law
And steer us through trouble's tide.

Sailing to the farthest shore,
You'll leave me here behind,
With the ocean's roar
And the gulls' keen cry
Stirring echoes in my mind.
Do not go gentle yet, my friend;
There are still new seas to find.
