This is a "pilot" chapter. If I get good feedback I will continue to write the story.
Chapter 1: Pilot
Uncle Vernon broke his leg in a car crash. Kind of ironic because thats what he and Harry's Aunt, Petunia had told him about how his parents died. Vernon's sister, Marge was coming over in a week and Petunia needed help preparing so she allowed Harry to invite a friend over to help as long as they "behaved." Harry had two choices, he could invite his friend Ron who knew nothing about the muggle world or his friend, Hermione who was muggleborn. Harry obviously chose the ladder.
Hermione arrived at Privet Drive in the rain with her parents. "Come in, come in, the weather is terrible out there," Petunia said, beckoning Hermione into the house. She had spoken to Hermione's parents over the phone the previous night to tell them when to pick her up so Hermione's parents did not follow their daughter into the house.
Hermione took off her coat and was about to hang it on the coat hanger by the door. "No," Petunia hissed. "Hang it in Harry's room."
Harry had Hermione follow him upstairs and once they couldn't be heard by his aunt she asked, "What's with the sudden personality change?"
"She's trying to act nice around your parents so they would actually let you stay over," he replied.
"Yeah, she seemed much nicer on the phone and when I was outside."
Harry led her into his room where he took her coat and hung it in his closet. "I'll be sleeping on the floor," Harry said pointing to the blanket on the floor. "You have the bed."
Hermione set her bag on the bed, "Harry, you don't even have a pillow."
"It's fine," Harry said.
Hermione groaned.
The two had dinner a few minutes after Harry helped Hermione settle in. Petunia had set them two bowls of red tomato soup. "You have a nice house," Hermione commented, looking around the kitchen as they ate.
"Thank you," Harry said dully.
Hermione looked at him oddly. "I hate it here," Harry said. "My entire life here I have had no one. You and Ron were my first friends, you know. Dudley would always threaten to beat up anyone who would even talk to me at school."
Hermione frowned and looked at Harry, "I'm sorry Harry," she said. "You should have said something."
Harry had his last bite of soup. "I was too happy to."
Petunia walked into the kitchen. "Harry you need to help Vernon get downstairs," she demanded. "And..."
Hermione looked up at Petunia, "Hermione."
"Hermione, go... wait for Harry in his room," she finished.
The two went upstairs. "I'll be back here in a few minutes," Harry told Hermione before walking off to Vernon and Petunia's bedroom.
"Come on Uncle Vernon," Harry said, pulling his uncle up out of bed and into his wheelchair.
"Is your girlfriend here?" Vernon asked.
Harry's face went red, "She isn't my girlfriend."
"It doesn't matter what she is," Vernon snapped as Harry started wheeling him out of the bedroom. "Is she here?"
"Yes," Harry said. "What does it matter to you?"
"I was just wondering," Vernon replied. "Just remember that if you two make this dinner a success I will sign your forms."
"Yes, Uncle Vernon."
The two were quiet the rest of the way.
Harry walked into his room where Hermione was sitting on the bed reading a book. "He's such a pain," Harry complained as he laid down on the floor.
"Who?" Hermione said, bookmarking her page.
"My uncle," Harry said.
"What happened?"
"This dinner with my aunt has to be a success in order for him to sign my Hogsmeade form."
"Then we better make this dinner a success," Hermione said.
"Thank god I didn't bring Ron," Harry joked. "Or that dinner would've gotten me kicked out."
Hermione laughed, "Are you serious?"
"Let's just say it wouldn't surprise me," Harry said.
Harry and Hermione each settled into their blankets and Harry rested his head on his arms. Hermione looked down at him from the bed, "Harry, come up here."
"What?" Harry asked, confused.
"Come onto the bed," Hermione said. "You look like a homeless person down there."
"I'm perfectly fine down here," Harry lied.
"Your a terrible liar, Potter," Hermione joked.
Harry laughed, "Are your sure your ok with me... sleeping up there."
"If you don't make it sound like that," Hermione said.
Harry took that as a yes and got up off of the ground and got into bed with Hermione. She looked at his face and laughed. "Take that look off of your face."
"What?"
"Your face, it looks so awkward."
"Oh, sorry," Harry said.
The two fell asleep soon after. They had a long week ahead of them.
