There were times when you had to wonder how you two came to be. You were so different. Where he was more stoic, serious business, you were joyful and whimsical. Your father was quite a wealthy businessman, though he was quite similar to you in personality. He'd crack jokes about his fellow business men, throw papers at them when they weren't looking, and hid their hats in the most ridiculous places. He was thrilled when you introduced him to Connor.
Tonight, it was just the two of you in the manor you called home, a wonderful meal laid out before you, and a large cake in the center for dessert. You both sat on opposite ends of the rather short diner table, eating the delicious food you helped your maids prepare. You gave them a night to themselves, to have some fun, and the only sounds were the small chats you both had between bites. A devious smile graced your red painted lips, and you grabbed a piece of the steak that served as your main course.
"Connor." You called, smiling. "Catch!" You tossed the piece of meat over his way, catching him off guard as it hit his nose. He looked bewildered, confused for the briefest moment before catching onto your game. Breaking a piece of cornbread off his muffin, he tossed it over to you. You opened your mouth, catching it and smiling at your victory.
"I got it!" You cheered, hands up in the air. Connor smiled, laughing at the childlike joy that filled your eyes. Your smirk returned as your eyes danced over the cake. Taking a berry from the top, you tossed it in the air, Connor catching it with ease. While he had caught it, you took some of the frosting from the top and reached over the table to flick it onto his cheek.
You had upped the ante, and it was war. The both of you stood, Connor removing his assassin's uniform and you stripping down to your underdress, both tossing them to the side. You grabbed a handful of corn pudding as Connor went for the cake, taking aim. He threw the cake, with a gentle arm, and grinned as it hit the side of your face, decorating you in frosting. You threw the corn pudding and hit his neck and chest. Food flew through the air, frosting, pudding, and mashed potatoes covering you both. Jumping up, you ran into his arms, licking the frosting from his cheek. Connor spun you around, laughing all the while. Even with food covering your bodies, you both danced to no music, smearing more of the cake on each other and taking bites from your lover's hands.
After the battle was done, the carnage everywhere, you both smiled, knowing you'd be the ones to clean it, but also knowing you'd both somehow make a game of it. Connor leaned down and captured your sugary lips with his, smiling as he did.
"I love you, y/n."
"I love you too."
