Devour
The silence screams amongst the crackling of flames.
Horror ripples through the crowd of ninjas. Their gaping mouths hang shamelessly. Their eyes pierce.
Sakura takes a deep breath and buries her face further into Sasuke's shoulder. The slight shift forces the kunai deeper between her shoulder blades. A shallow, shivering gasp rocks her. Her hands hold tightly to him.
The not yet spoken declarations of her betrayal echo in her ears. She glances around Sasuke discreetly. His comrades, all rouge ninjas, stand with devilish smirks on their faces.
She remembers.
Stay. I won't implicate you.
Confused, she had wondered aloud why he do such a thing for her.
You stand with me, Sakura. You're the only one to stand with me.
A whisper of a breath spills over her lips. The emerald of her eyes hardens. She rests her forehead against him. Her sensei's words are lost to her. She simply nods: her consent; her co-operation; her undoubtable loyalty.
He smirks, pressing the kunai further into her skin. "The time of Konoha has ended,"
His comrades charge into battle. The rush of wind whips at her hair. The locks splay across her eyes, blinding her.
Sasuke's warmth vanishes.
She whips around to find herself alone. The battle rages violently all around her. Friends, neighbours, allies and comrades fall. The shock seals her to the spot.
Her pounding heart crushes against her ribcage. A great, sharp gasp almost takes her to her knees. The splattering blood washes up to her feet.
She stammers, chanting deliriously. "I'm all right... I'm all right... I'm all right..."
She straightens slowly. The scene bursts to brilliant life before her. New eyes watch the carnage. Still, calm eyes watch unflinchingly.
An arm wraps around her shoulder. The familiar prod of a kunai in her back brings a smile to her face. She tears her eyes from the scene to glance at him. He smirks down at her.
"Do you see?" he asks quietly.
She nods. "This is the end of a great wrong. This is a bright future,"
He draws her closer. "If you were still with them you would miss this,"
She looks back to the battle. "Cowards know no rewards,"
The angry cry of a former comrade shatters their peace. Both turn to find furious bleeding eyes approaching at a breakneck pace.
Sakura draws her katana. She steps out from the protection of Sasuke's arm. The beautiful blade breaks through bone. Blood flashes before her and joins the river.
An affectionate, almost prideful, kiss is planted on her head.
For a brief moment she almost wonders why he would feel such an odd kind of pride, but she swiftly cast it aside.
Author's Note: This is the 3rd time this has been used in a row! First, it was to edit a chapter. Then, less than an hour ago I started a new story on this document for Incarceron. Now, thirdly, I've written this. All on my I-pod too! I can't believe it's only taken about 30 minutes!
No, this is not a sequel to Crimson. It can be considered a sequel, however, if you so wish it to be. Also, yes, this was inspired by Eurovision. The song is one that I consider to be the single soundtrack to - Infinite - . Just thought that I would mention that!
Thank you for reading. I do hope that you have enjoyed reading this piece. I apologise if I have not satisfied you.
