woo whaddaya know
it's poetry day and here ya go
(seriously. it's national random acts of poetry day today)
if you look
past the street
past the cars
on the road
you will see a girl dancing all by herself
.
sally
amidst the cars
watching the sky
waiting
for a man to love, a car to stop, a star to fall
waiting
for okay again
.
sally
the girl who the ladies will whisper about
"poor darling," they say
"so young and an orphan"
sally
the girl with no money, no parents, no home
.
"great potential,"
say her teachers
"such a shame that she can't pay"
.
sally
who has nothing
[she has dreams
she can smile
she is kind
she is dear]
[you can't count that in money, now can you?]
.
sally
the girl that whispers at night
the one that hopes someday
the sky will send her someone
.
sally
the teenager with bags under her eyes
and caffeine in her blood
who works late nights and long hours
who hopes for a scholarship
.
sally
the girl that left school
the girl they say failed
whispers to the sky,
"come now"
.
poseidon
who found a jewel he couldn't see at first
who wore flip-flops in the winter
who took her to montauk
and warmed the water
so they could swim
.
sally
the girl who is in love
.
in a coffee shop on the edge of manhattan
she will sit
with a child in her stomach and a textbook on her lap
with a broken heart
she hates the sky
.
"don't you worry darling
daddy will come home soon"
sally jackson
the toddler who loved everyone
the child that begged the sky for a blessing
the woman who fell in love
and couldn't pay to fix her heart
the girl that grew up too fast
the one who finally found her happiness many years later
the one who will always smile
and love
because she knows what it's like
.
sally.
