It was over.
And now for the first time in her life, Virginia Weasley was alone.
She stood on the hill overlooking the valley where the battle had taken place. Where He Who Must Not Be Named had finally fallen. Where her friends and the last of her family had died. The setting sun cast an eerie purplish pink glow over the bodies that lay scattered.
So many had fallen- Harry, Ron, and Hermione. The Hogwarts dream team hadn't stood a chance- Ron and 'Mione had been among the first to fall. The faces of the rest of her classmates ran through her mind in a blur.
Before she even realized she was doing it, Ginny found herself searching the battlefield for him, he who had been the bane of her existence for 6 years. He who had been the focus of her every dream. She shuddered as she spied him- his black hair covering his face, wand dangling from a limp hand. A breath that Ginny hadn't realizes she was holding came out and a cry came forth. "No.no.no..please, no." She crashed to her knees, blacking out, not hearing the silky voice calling out to her. "Miss Weasley are you alright?"
Severus Snape cursed as he saw Ginny collapse. He quickened his pace and fell to his knees next to her. Her pulse was weak he noted, grabbing her wrist. He brushed a long red curl away from her face and noticed how cold her skin was, probably from shock. He lifted her easily and kissed her forehead. "Hold on love. Don't die on me now." With that he apparated to the front gates of Hogwarts.
Unable to find Madame Pomfrey, Severus set to work to bring Ginny back to consciousness. He placed her gently under the covers of his bed and covered her with every blanket he had before casting several warming charms. He sat next to the bed, holding her tiny pale hand in his.
"Please, Ginny, wake up. I can't lose you, not now." The tiny girl's body temperature had yet to rise. There was only one other thing he could think of to do. Removing his outer robes, Severus crawled into the large bed, pulling Ginny close and rubbing her arms to warm her.
He continued this, murmuring to her as she slowly warmed. Color came back to her cheeks and she began to grow restless and turn in her sleep. Snape caressed her cheek as she snuggled closer.
Ginny struggled to open her eyes. She was warm she realized, no longer as cold as she had felt in the valley. Her eyes opened and she found herself staring at a broad chest clothed in white silk. She sat up quickly, unsure of where she was.
"Easy, Miss Weasley." A gentle hand on her stomach pushed her back down to the pillows.
"P-p-professor! I'm sorry. I'll return to my rooms immediately." She tried to sit up again, but Severus wrapped a muscled arm around her waist and pulled her down again.
"Child, you are here because I brought you here. You need not leave." He tenderly brushed a strand of hair out of her face before getting up and leaving the room.
Ginny calmed slightly at his words and rested against the pillows again, too tired to do more than take in her surroundings.
The room was pleasantly warm, due to a large fireplace at the foot of the bed. The walls were painted emerald green with silver and black accents. The bed she was currently tucked into was outfitted with black sheets and a green bedspread.
A few moments later Severus appeared with a cup of tea and a vial of what looked to be dreamless sleep. The warm tea soothed Ginny's nerves and settled her stomach. Without a word Severus handed her the potion.
"Stay with me?" she asked softly, looking down at her hands.
"Forever, Love, if that's what you wish." Severus captured the girl's lips in a soft kiss. When the girl fell asleep, Severus Snape crawled into the bed and curled up close. For the first time in years he fell into a deep and peaceful sleep.
