Sunset

Sasuke watched as dusk slowly descended on the grassy hilltop, the sun gradually sinking down towards the horizon. The darkening sky turned from cyan to cobalt, the area surrounding the sun tinged slightly orange from the last furtive rays cast by the retiring sun. The underside of the clouds that were scattered across the vast sky generously in large amounts were dusted with orange and pink, as the colours spread slowly in tendrils to the rest of the huge canvas that was the sky. The brilliant hues of red, orange and pink exploded across the land, giving Sasuke's porcelain features a hint of persimmon glow.

The darkness began to congregate in the little hollows of the uneven landscape; valleys, little wellsprings at first, until the shadows began to get bolder and creep up higher, consuming the low-lying areas like small hills and sparse shrubs. Then, in a surge of immense harmony and precision, they rose up to the skies, enveloping the entire surface of the earth, swallowing everything entirely in its thick, dense mass, the brilliant colours no more visible. It was as if a talented artist had finished his watercolour and then spilled black paint over the whole thing, to be ready to be painted over again the next day.

He often likened the coming of sunset as just another daily routine; just another one of those natural happenings, like rain, or snow. He never really stopped to appreciate it fully, and enjoy the beauty of it. To him, it was plain, and ordinary. Average. And Uchihas do not go for average.

However, on that particular day, here he was, admiring it for the first time, taking in the all the splendid grandeur amazedly. Turning to his left, he smiled as he looked at the head of bright, blond hair that shone like the sun, resting on his shoulder, its owner fast asleep. The sun may have set, and the land was now sans sunlight, but he still had his own source of light next to him, his personal sunlight.

Naruto was his light.

A.N. Heh, nothing much in particular, just a short little drabble that was inspired by a sunset i caught when on the plane the night before. :D Reviews would be very much welcome.
