Don't worry, o great owners of the YGO franchise, I am not trying to make any money off your licensed property, which I know belongs to you, not me.
He can get a date with anyone he wants, which is how it ought to be, considering he's only the best duelist in the entire world, but the one person he really wants a date with is his longtime rival, the bastard duelist who always manages to beat him through some combination of luck and trickery. And for some reason, Yami won't go out with him. The invitation he's trying today is sort of a last-ditch effort:
"I'm thinking of reformulating my deck, now that you have all three God Cards," Seto says when they meet between classes. "Can we get together after school and discuss dueling strategy?"
"A good idea." Yami nods. "Where do you want to meet?"
"Anywhere," Seto says. "We can get something to drink while we talk. What do you like?"
The Pharaoh's eyes brighten. "Do you know where we can get fermented barley wine?" he asks eagerly. "That was always my favorite, back in Egypt."
Seto doesn't. "How about the soba shop on the corner?" he offers instead.
"Yuugi does all the eating this body needs, thank you," says Yami. "No offense Kaiba, but Japanese food sucks."
A grit of his teeth, a glance at his watch to see if he's late for Calculus yet. But Kaibas don't give up as easily as this: "We'll go over to my place and use my simulation program then," Seto says. "I'll call Marik and see if he's got any of that fermented barley crap you like."
Yami shakes his head. "Marik's in Cairo visiting his sister," he says.
Seto wants to hit him with something. Preferably his Calculus book, which is large, and heavy, and might jar some of the arrogance out of that fat head of his …Only more likely, it would just give Yuugi a concussion. "Fine," he says, "whatever. You know I don't know why the hell I bother, Yami. What exactly is the point?" And he stalks off to Calculus class in a huff.
Yami, who was about to say they could go over to Yuugi's place and talk gaming strategy there, just shrugs his shoulders and follows him. Then later on in his Soul Room, he tells Yuugi what happened. "I don't know how Kaiba's ever going to get friends if he keeps acting so grumpy," he says, and Yuugi nods.
